What is the fault code P0710? What is Transmission Fluid temperature sensor A circuit malfunction? How can I fix the P0710 fault? What are the symptoms and causes for the P0710 fault code

What is the P0710 fault code? What does it signify?

The code P0710 refers to voltage problems in the transmission temperature (TFT), sensor circuit in automatic transmission vehicles. If the powertrain (PCM/ECM/ECU/ECU) or the transmission control module (TCM), detects that the voltage signal coming from the transmission fluid temperature sensor exceeds the manufacturer’s specifications, a P0710 code will be generated. This indicates that either the transmission has been overheated, or the sensor or circuit is defective.

The transmission oil pan houses the TFT sensor. The TFT sensors receive a reference voltage signal, usually 5 volts from the PCM and produce a voltage signal based upon the transmission fluid temperature. TFT sensors have a negative temperature coefficient (NTC). The temperature has an inverse relationship with the sensor’s internal resistance. The resistance of the TFT sensor drops as the transmission oil temperature increases. Conversely, when the temperature drops, it becomes more resistant.

There are many models of Jeep and Ford that are prone to the P0710 fault code, such as Nissan, Toyota, Honda.

What is the P0710 Fault Code?

Below are some reasons to set fault code P0710.

  • – Temperature sensor to detect defective transmission oil
  • – Transmission oil that is not clean
  • – Transmission fluid missing or leaking
  • – Short circuits, corrosion or damage to wires and connectors
  • – Gearbox damaged

What are the symptoms for P0710 malfunction code?

These symptoms may be present in vehicles with code P0710.

  • – Illumination for the check engine light
  • – Malfunctioning locked torque converter clutch
  • – Irregular, harsh or delayed gear changes
  • – The gearbox is overheated
  • – You can prevent the vehicle from changing gears by entering the safe mode (“Limp Mode”)

How to Fix the P0710 Fault Code

It is necessary to replace the sensor and any wiring that may be damaged.

  • – Replacing a faulty temperature sensor for transmission
  • – Repair of wiring, connectors and the transmission temperature sensor circuit
  • – Clean the gearbox and change the oil
  • Repairing oil leaks in transmissions

How Serious Is the P0710 Fault Coding?

Depending on the source of the fault, the severity of P0710 code can vary. The problem can be fixed if the temperature sensor in the transmission is damaged. However, if the vehicle has gone into safe mode, this may indicate that the problem is more serious. Overheating can lead to internal transmission damage. It is important to address the P0710 fault code as soon as possible.
