What is the P0713 fault code What is Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor A circuit High Input Malfunction? How do you fix the P0713 fault code What are the symptoms and causes for the P0713 fault code

What is the P0713 Fault code? What does it all mean?

Many vehicles are equipped with a transmission oil temp (TFT) sensor. This sensor is used by the powertrain control module (PCM), to calculate certain parameters. A P0713 code is an indication of the following: “Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor A Circuit High Input” .

The TFT sensor is used by your vehicle to determine shift points and transmission pressure. This sensor is located behind the oil pan in the transmission valve body.

TFT sensors have a negative temperature coefficient (NTC). This means that their internal resistance is proportional to oil temperature. The resistance of the TFT sensors decreases as the transmission oil temperature increases. Conversely, when the temperature drops, the resistance will increase. Fault code P0713 will be issued if the PCM detects that voltage from the TFT sensor has been higher than expected.

There are many vehicles that fall prey to the P0713 fault code, including models from Chery, Nissan and Hyundai, Dodge, Ford, Mazda, Kia Motors, Toyota and Lexus.

What causes the P0713 Fault code?

Below are some reasons to set fault code P0713:

  • – Defective transmission fluid temperature (TFT) sensor
  • – Broken wires, loose connectors or rusty connections, open or short circuit problems
  • – Transmission internal mechanical issues
  • – Use a dirty transmission oil
  • – Leakage or missing transmission fluid
  • – Blockage of transmission filter

What are the symptoms of the P0713 Fault Code?

You may experience the following symptoms if your vehicle has the code P0713:

  • – Illumination for the check engine light
  • – Torque converter clutch malfunction
  • – Irregular, harsh or delayed gear changes
  • – Gearbox overheating
  • – The transmission may emit smoke or other burning odors
  • – You can prevent the vehicle from changing gears by entering the safe mode (“Limp Mode”)

How do I fix the P0713 fault code?

The following repairs may be able to resolve the P0713 fault code:

  • – Replacing the defective temperature sensor of transmission oil
  • Repair of damaged wiring, connectors, or open or short circuit issues to the transmission temp sensor circuit
  • – Clean the gearbox and change the oil
  • – Repair of transmission oil leaked
  • – Replace the transmission filter

How Serious Is the P0713 Fault Code

This code can be categorized as medium-high to severe. This code can indicate a transmission problem in some cases. It is a good idea for you to address this code immediately.
