What is P0718 fault code? What is the description for Input/Turbine Shaft speed Sensor A Circuit Intermittent Failure? How do I fix the P0718 fault code What are the symptoms and causes for the P0718 fault code

What is the P0718 Fault code? What does it all mean?

A malfunction code P0718 will trigger if the powertrain controller module (PCM), receives an erratic, intermittent voltage signal via the input shaft speed sensor circuit “A”.

The input shaft speed sensor, also known as the turbine shaft speed sensing, is responsible for monitoring transmission input speed. Both sensors, despite their names, are nearly identical in design and serve the exact same purpose. It is a 3-wire electromagnetic sensor. It is normally attached to the transmission box with a bolt or stud. It is located at the rear of the torque convertor, on the transmission input shaft.

A specially designed reluctor wheels is used for the gearbox input shaft. The reluctor wheels rotate and pass near the tip as the RPMs from the engine to transmission are transferred. An electromagnetic field is created by the wheel’s rotation. The electronic wave is created when the sensor detects the notched or grooved areas. These electromagnetic waves are detected by the powertrain controller module (PCM), or transmission control modules (TCM). The PCM uses the engine RPM speed, transmission shaft speed, transmission output shaft speed, and engine load to calculate RPM and gear changes. PCM will set malfunction code P0718 if it detects an intermittent voltage signal from the input/turbine speed sensor “A”.

The P0718 fault code can affect vehicles of various manufacturers, including Ford, Honda and Volvo as well as Mercedes Benz, Mercedes Benz, Mercedes Benz, Volkswagen, Mercedes Benz, Mercedes Benz, and Volkswagen.

What is the P0718 Fault Code?

Below are some reasons to set fault code P0718:

  • – Defective input/turbine shaft speed sensor
  • – Problems with the speed sensor circuit, such as damaged wires or loose connections.
  • – Metal residues are collected in the magnetic sensor
  • – Problem with the powertrain control or transmission module

What are the symptoms of P0718 Malfunction Code?

These symptoms may be present in vehicles with code P0718.

  • – Illumination at the check engine lights
  • Speedometer not working, fluctuating, or showing an error
  • – Gear changes may be erratic, erratic or delayed
  • Transmissions may not shift at all
  • – Increased fuel use
  • – Engine stops at idle
  • – The failsafe mode can be entered by the PCM/TCM

How to Fix the P0718 Fault Code

The following repairs may be able to resolve the P0718 fault code:

  • – Replacing defective Inlet/turbine shaft speed sensors
  • – Repair or replacement of damaged, shorted or open wiring or circuits
  • – Replacing defective, loose, rusty connectors
  • – Reprogramming the PCM/TCM, or replacing it

How Serious Is the P0718 Fault Coding?

This code is considered a serious problem because it can cause problems with the vehicle’s performance and drivability. While it will not cause the vehicle to stop being driven, it can result in dangerous situations such incorrect gear shifting and stalling. It is imperative to fix P0718 as soon as possible in order to stop the malfunction from getting worse and prevent transmission damage.
