What is the fault code P0722? What is Output Shaft Speed Sensor Circuit No Signal? How can I fix P0722 fault codes? What are the causes and symptoms of the P0722 error code?

What is the P0722 Fault code? What does it signify?

A P0722 code means “Output Speed Sensor No Signal”. The P0722 code means “Output Speed Sensor No Signal”. This is because the PCM cannot receive an input signal for the transmission output shaft speed sensor. It is effectively deprived of the primary information it requires to control the transmission. In this case, the engine fault light and P0722 fault code will activate.

The output speed sensor’s job is to calculate the rotational velocity of the gearbox output spindle and transmit it to the PCM using a voltage signal. This input is used to control the shift solenoids by the PCM. Solenoids move transmission fluid between hydraulic circuits, changing the transmission gear ratio when necessary. The output shaft speed sensor can control the speedometer depending on the vehicle and configuration. The fluid pressure is maintained in the correct place by the automatic transmission. This can be done using shifter bands or clutches. This starts with the output shaft speed sensor of the gearbox. If the PCM fails to receive a voltage signal, code P0722 is triggered.

The image below shows an average transmission output shaft speed sensors. The design and appearance of the output shaft speed sensors can vary between applications. However, they are usually located near the transmission output shaft.

P0722 fault codes can be found on many vehicles, including, but not limited, to models of Volkswagen and Toyota, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-Benz, Chevrolet, Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes–Benz, Mercedes–Benz, Mercedes–Benz, Mercedes–Benz, Chevrolet, Duramax Ford Honda, Hyundai, and Audi.

What Are the Possible Causes of P0722 Fault Codes?

Here are some reasons why P0722 should be set.

  • – Defective output shaft speed sensor
  • – Cables or connectors that are damaged or corroded
  • – Defective shift solenoids
  • – Internal transmission failure
  • – Low or dirty transmission oil
  • – Clogged or dirty transmission filter
  • – Defective engine coolant temperature sensor
  • – Hydraulic control unit for transmission failure
  • – Blockage of hydraulic fluid lines
  • Software update required for a defective PCM (or transmission control module) or deficient PCM.

What are the symptoms of P0722 Malfunction Code?

The transmission output speeds sensor gives information about the rotational speed the transmission output shaft. This sensor can fail, indicating that your vehicle could have problems with its engine or transmission. The PCM does not have the information necessary to keep the engine running smoothly.

These symptoms may be present if you own a vehicle that has the code “P0722”.

  • – Illumination for the check engine light
  • – An increase in fuel consumption
  • Transmissions may not shift at all
  • – Incorrect or delayed gear changes
  • Vehicle stalling
  • Engine misfires
  • – A PCM can go into failsafe mode
  • – Incorrect speed (kms) displayed

Note: Some vehicles may have an OSS sensor that is aligned to the Transmission Fluid Temperature sensor (TFT). If the TFT sensor has a fault, or the associated wiring is damaged, the OSS sensing system could also fail.

How do I fix the P0722 fault code?

The following repairs may be able to resolve the P0722 fault code:

  • – Replacing damaged or defective transmission shaft speed sensor
  • – Replacing damaged connectors or cables
  • – Replacing damaged or defective shift solenoid
  • – Clean the transmission and replace the transmission fluid.
  • – Replacing transmission filter
  • Transmission leaks can be corrected
  • – Replacing a defective hydraulic control unit
  • Replacing a defective engine coolant temperature sensor
  • – Reprogramming of the TCM or PCM

Technicians should examine the damage to the output velocity sensor, or any other components, after replacing the faulty parts. If the sensor fails because of an engine leak, it is necessary to fix the engine leak as well as the sensor.

How serious is the P0722 Fault code?

Sometimes, the code P0722 may not show any symptoms. Sometimes, these symptoms can make driving difficult or impossible. Driving safety may be compromised if the vehicle stalls or idles. It is recommended that you immediately address this code.
