What is the P0732 fault code What is the definition of Gear 2 Incorrect Gear Rate Failure? How do you fix the P0732 fault code What are the causes and symptoms of the P0732 error code?

What is the P0732 fault code? What does it signify?

A P0732 error code means that there is an issue with your automatic transmission. This code is issued when the manufacturer’s default standards for the 2nd gear ratio are not being met.

Modern vehicles equipped with automatic transmission/transaxle use a torque converter between engine and transmission to increase engine torque output and drive the rear wheels. Computer-controlled automatic transmission can use multiple gear ratios to improve vehicle speed without reducing engine power. Modern cars can have multiple gear ratios to increase fuel efficiency. The PCM, or powertrain control module, determines the appropriate gear change based on vehicle speed and throttle position.

The ratio of gears is the difference in the rotational speeds between two gears with different diameters. The output speed divided by the input speeds is how the gear ratio is calculated. To determine these values, both the input speed and output speed sensors can be used in transmission.

The Powertrain Control Module, (PCM), or Transmission Control Module(TCM) uses data from these sensors to determine the gear ratio and torque converter slippage. If the PCM has difficulty determining when and how to shift into 2nd gear, a P0732 fault code will be triggered.

The P0732 fault code can affect vehicles of all makes and models, including Ford (especially Escape), Jeep, Nissan Mazda, Subaru, Mitsubishi Honda, Dodge, Duramax BMW, Hyundai, Mazda, Subaru, Mitsubishi, Honda, Dodge and Mazda.

What is the P0732 Fault Code?

Here are some reasons why P0732 should be set.

  • Low transmission oil
  • Filtering and dirty transmission oil can restrict hydraulic passages
  • – Damaged or worn cables
  • – Defective solenoid for 2nd shift
  • – A mechanical problem in the transmission.
  • – Defective hydraulic controller unit
  • – Defective transmission pump
  • – Defective torque converter clutch
  • – Defective transmission control module (TCM), or PCM.

What are the symptoms for P0732 fault code?

These symptoms may be present if you own a vehicle that has the P0732 code.

  • – Illumination for the check engine light
  • – Delayed shifting
  • – Vehicle doesn’t shift into 2nd gear, or is stuck in 2nd.
  • Gearbox slippage in and out
  • – Higher fuel consumption
  • Unexpected engine stop

How to Fix the P0732 Fault Code

  • – Topping up transmission oil that is not available
  • After flushing the system, change any oil that is dirty or burned.
  • – Replacing a defective shift solenoid
  • – Repair damaged cables and connectors in the transmission control circuit
  • – Repairing a solenoid harness for a shorted or open shift
  • – Repair of clogged transmission line
  • – Repair and replacement of damaged transmission or torque converter parts
  • – Repair or reprogramming of an inoperable TCM or PCM

How serious is the P0732 Fault code?

Depending on the severity of the symptoms, fault code P0732 may vary in severity. Some situations may cause significant transmission problems. Other situations have a minimal impact on driving performance. No matter what the outcome of any transmission issue, it is important to address it as soon as possible. It is not recommended that you use a vehicle with an inoperative transmission.
