What is the P0733 fault code? What does it all mean?
Fault code: P0733 “Gear 3 incorrect ratio” . This code is set when an abnormality with the automatic transmission’s 3rd gear ratio is detected.
Computer-controlled automated transmissions make use of multiple gear ratios in order to maximize engine power output and improve vehicle speed. Modern cars might have more than four gears in order to improve fuel economy. The computer decides whether to downshift or increase depending on the vehicle’s speed.
The powertrain control module (PCM/ECM), or the transmission control module, (TCM), uses data from multiple sensors, such as vehicle speed, throttle position and engine speed, to determine which gear ratio a particular wheel should have.
