What is the P0734 fault code What is the description for Gear 4 Incorrect Gear Rate Failure? How can you fix P0734 fault codes? What are the causes and symptoms of the P0734 error code?

What is the P0734 Fault code? What does it signify?

P0734 stands for fault code “Gear 4 Incorrect Ratio.” . This code is used if there is an abnormality with the fourth gear ratio in an automatic transmission.

Computer-controlled automated transmissions make use of multiple gear ratios in order to increase vehicle speed and engine power. Modern cars can have four or more gear ratios to increase fuel economy. The computer calculates the speed of your vehicle and determines when you should downshift or go up.

The powertrain control module (PCM/ECM/TCM), or the transmission control module, uses data from multiple sensors, such as vehicle speed, throttle position, engine speed, and vehicle speed to determine which gear should have. The transmission input shaft speed sensor is compared to the transmission output shaft speed sensors to calculate the gear ratio and torque converter parameters. It stores the P0734 code when it detects a large RPM difference in rotation speed between the transmission input shaft speed speed sensor rotation speed and the transmission output shaft speed speed sensor rotation speed, even though the vehicle is in 4th.

Note: This code is identical to P0729 and P0730. Repair any transmission fault codes first.

What is the P0734 Fault Code?

  • – Low transmission oil
  • – Use a transmission fluid that is too dirty (skipping maintenance for transmissions)
  • – Oil flow is impeded by blocked transmission lines
  • – Defective 4th shift solenoid
  • – Internal transmission problems
  • – Defective valve body
  • – Transmission circuit issues such as bad wiring or loose connections
  • – An issue with PCM or TCM such as software needs to be updated

What are the symptoms of the P0734 Fault Code?

  • – Illumination for the check engine light
  • – Gear shifting problems (delay in shifting gears, vehicle not shifting into 4th gear)
  • Gearbox slip
  • – Gearbox overheating
  • – Increased fuel consumption
  • – Some cases may result in serious engine performance issues, such as misfires or stalling while driving.

How do I fix the P0734 fault code?

  • – Transmission fluid replacement and topping up, if necessary
  • – Replacing the solenoid for 4th shift
  • – Replacing a powertrain control panel
  • – Replacing the transmission (if applicable)
  • – Repair internal transmission damage

How serious is the P0734 fault code?

P0734 is a serious fault code. This code can cause many driving problems and could leave the vehicle stranded. This code should be fixed as soon as possible in order to avoid further damage and prevent the vehicle from becoming stranded.
