What is the P0737 fault code and what does it mean? What is the TCM Engine speed output circuit malfunction? How can you fix the P0737 fault code What are the causes and symptoms for the P0737 fault code
What is the P0737 fault code? What does it all mean?
If the PCM (powertrain controller module) or the TCM (transmission controller module) receives an abnormal, erratic or inconsistent voltage signal from either the circuit’s engine speed output sensor, or circuit, a code P0737 will be generated.
To control, regulate and calculate the transmission’s shifting strategies, the PCM/TCM employs a variety sensors and switches. It uses an engine speed sensor (ESS), to determine the shift points. As the name suggests, this sensor calculates the engine’s rotational velocity (RPM). This sensor is also known as the crankshaft position sensors (CKP), or the transmission output shaft speed sensor OSS. If it cannot receive a suitable voltage signal from this sensor the PCM/TCM won’t be able calculate the vehicle’s speed or shift into the proper gear. The fault code is P0737, and the check engine light activates to notify the driver.
P0737 fault codes can be applied to vehicles made by Mitsubishi, Ford and Suzuki.
What causes the P0737 Fault code?
Fault code P0737 is most commonly triggered by the following:
- – Defective gearbox output shaft speed sensor
- – Defective transmission input shaft speed sensor
- – Defective crankshaft position sensor
- – Defective output shaft position sensor / crankshaft speed sensor reluctor wheel
- – Broken, melted, corroded, or damaged wires to sensors that cause an open or brief circuit
- – Remove loose or rusty sockets/connectors
- – Defective shift solenoid(s)
- – Transmission fluid that is not working properly or not clean up.
- – Transmission fluid line obstructions
- – Defective engine sensor (especially engine temperature sensor).
- – The PCM/TCM has a problem or needs to be reprogrammed
What are the P0737 Malfunction Code Symptoms
These symptoms may be present in vehicles with code P0737.
- – Illumination for check engine light
- – Requires hard, delayed and unpredictable shifting
- Transmission cannot change gears
- – Gearbox slip/ slip
- – Increased fuel consumption
- – Non-working or wave speedometer
- Engine misfires
- – Engine hesitation during acceleration
- – Engine stalling during idling, or when it stops
- – PCM may enter failsafe mode (limp Mode) to limit engine power
How to Fix the P0737 Fault Code
These are some of the possible repairs that could resolve the P0737 fault code:
- – Replacing the defective transmission output shaft speed sensor
- – Replacing a defective transmission input shaft speed sensor
- – Replace the crankshaft position sensor
- – Repair of damaged wires, connectors or open circuits to sensors
- – Reluctor wheels need to be checked and replaced if necessary
- – Replacing a damaged or defective shift solenoid.
- – Refilling the transmission fluid that is not available
- – Replacing dirty or contaminated transmission oil
- – Clean lines that prevent fluid flow
- – Replacement of or reprogramming the PCM/TCM
How Serious Is the P0737 Fault Coding?
Set fault code P0737 means that your vehicle is experiencing serious problems that require your attention. You may have engine performance or driveability issues if you receive this code. You might experience problems such as engine power loss, incorrect gear changes and misfire. This can lead to an increase in costs and magnifying the malfunction. The problem must be fixed quickly.
