What is the P0758 fault number? What is the description of Gear Shift Solenoid “B” Electrical Failure? How can you fix the P0758 fault? What are the symptoms, causes, and solutions for the P0758 fault code?

What is the P0758 Fault code? What does it mean?

A code P0758 will be issued if the powertrain control module, PCM detects an electric fault in the “B” shift solenoid/circuit.

Computer-controlled automatic transmissions use shift solenoids in order to adjust gear ratios. There are three solenoids in automatic transmissions. They are called A, C, and P0756.

Shift solenoids, managed by the PCM or transmission control module (TCM), are used to adjust the transmission gear ratio. This is done by directing the transmission fluid to various hydraulic circuits. The solenoid that controls the gear sends the pressurized fluid to the correct hydraulic circuit as the vehicle speeds increase or decrease. The hydraulic circuit maintains proper alignment of all transmission components by applying pressure. You can maximize engine performance by using different gear combinations.

If the PCM, or TCM detects an electric fault in the “B” shift solenoidcircuit, a code of P0758 is issued. To notify the driver, however, the check engine lamp is activated on the instrument cluster. A transmission warning or overdrive light might also be on.

The P0758 fault code can affect vehicles of all makes and models, including but not limited to Toyota, Hyundai, Daihatsu Mercedes-Benz, Saab Jeep, Ford, Mazda Mazda, Chevrolet, Cadillac BMW, Volvo, Subaru Dodge, Chrysler, Honda, and Chrysler.

What are the possible causes of the P0758 Fault code?

Here are some reasons why P0758 should be set.

  • – An electrical fault has occurred in the solenoid circuit for “B” shift
  • – Defective “B” shift solenoid
  • – Low or dirty transmission oil
  • Use of an incompatible or inappropriate transmission fluid
  • – Clogged or dirty transmission filter
  • – Blockage of hydraulic fluid lines
  • – Connectors and/or wiring that are damaged, shorted, disconnected, or corroded
  • – Defective hydraulic control unit for transmission
  • – A clogged or defective transmission pump
  • – Other mechanical problems in the gearbox
  • Software update required for a defective PCM (or transmission control module) or deficient PCM.

What are the symptoms for P0758 Malfunction Code

You may experience the following symptoms if your vehicle has the code P0758:

  • – Illumination at the check engine lights
  • – The transmission warning light is on
  • Gearbox slipping
  • Gearbox stuck in any gear (especially 2-3).
  • – Incorrect or delayed gear changes
  • – Engine stalling in the event that the vehicle is about stop
  • – Vehicle does not move when in gear
  • – Increased fuel use
  • – The gearbox is overheated
  • – Sometimes, misfire-like symptoms may be seen in one or more of the cylinders.
  • – The PCM can be set to failsafe mode

How do I fix the P0758 fault code?

This is the most common error in repairing this code.

Some repairs that can resolve the P0758 fault code may include:

  • Ensure that all codes are cleared before you drive the car to test if they return.
  • – Clean the hydraulic passages, flush the transmission and fill the transmission with fluid
  • – Replacing transmission filter
  • – Repair damaged wires and connectors to solenoid
  • – Cleaning corrosion on connectors
  • – Replacing the defective solenoid for “B” shift
  • – Replacing an inoperable hydraulic control unit
  • – Removing or replacing blockages in the pump
  • – Reprogramming the TCM/PCM

How Serious Is the P0758 Fault Coding?

This code is usually moderately severe but can escalate to a more severe level if it is not addressed promptly. A vehicle with an automatic transmission can experience problems when it cannot shift between second and third gears. This can also pose a danger while driving. You can observe transmission problems such as shifting issues or not changing gears. The PCM may enter fail-safe mode which may limit engine speed and make it difficult to drive. This will result in high repair costs and it is best to have the problem fixed as soon as possible.
