What is the P0801 fault code What is Reverse Inhibit Switch Control Circuit Malfunction? How can you fix P0801 fault code What are the causes and symptoms of the P0801 error code?

What is the P0801 fault code? What does it signify?

If you see a P0801 code on your vehicle, it means that the powertrain controller module (PCM), detected a malfunction within the reversing inhibit switch control circuit.

The input signals from multiple transmission and engine sensors are used by the PCM to calculate the automatic transmission shifting strategy. The reverse gear inhibitor switch prevents the transmission from shifting to reverse while the vehicle is moving ahead. An electronically controlled solenoid acts as a piston/pin to actuate the lever so that it does not shift into reverse while the vehicle is moving ahead.

When the PCM commands reverse inhibition, “ON” The control circuit voltage should not be higher than 0 volts. When it commands “OFF” The circuit voltage should be close to the battery voltage. If the PCM detects an unusual voltage signal from the circuit reverse inhibit switch, or circuit, the code P0801 is issued.

P0801 fault codes are found in many vehicle types, including, but not limited, to Citroen, Chrysler and Seat, Rover, Duramax. Peugeot, Citroen, Citroen, Chrysler and Seat.

What is the P0801 Fault Code?

The following are the most frequent causes of the P0801 fault code:

  • – Defective reverse switch
  • – A blown fuse
  • – Reverse inhibit switch damaged wires, rusty or loose connections, open or shortcircuit issues
  • – Damaged reverse lever
  • – Programming error or defective PCM

What are the symptoms of the P0801 Fault Code Code?

These symptoms may be present in vehicles with code P0801.

  • – Illumination for check engine lights
  • – The transmission shifts into reverse very quickly or not at all
  • – While the vehicle is moving forward, you can put the gear lever in reverse

How do I fix the P0801 fault code?

The following repairs may be able to resolve the P0801 fault code:

  • – Replacing the faulty reverse inhibitor switch
  • – Repair of damaged wires and connectors.
  • – Replacing a blown fuse
  • – Replacing a damaged lever
  • – Reprogramming or replacement of a faulty PCM

How serious is the P0801 Fault code?

P0801 is a rare fault code. While you can drive with this code, be cautious when changing gears. While driving forward, you don’t want your vehicle to shift into reverse. This could cause transmission gears to wear out and break down. This situation is usually within your control, but you might want to reverse the vehicle in normal driving conditions. A defective switch can stop the transmission from engaging in reverse.
