What is the P0805 fault code? What does it mean
If the powertrain control module, PCM detects a fault with the clutch position sensor circuit, a P0805 code is issued. This code only applies to vehicles with manual transmission. If the code is applied to an auto transmission vehicle, it will be invalid or improperly programmed.
The clutch position sensor acts as a secondary safety measure to stop the engine starting when the vehicle’s in gear. It’s a toggle switch that opens and closes depending on whether the clutch pedal is depressed. These switches are typically mounted on the bracket of the clutch pedal, but their design can vary depending on make and model. One side of the switch is constant voltage. When the clutch pedal presses, the contacts in the switch make contact with the starter motor or starter solenoid and send voltage. The circuit that allows the engine’s to run is complete. This circuit and switch disables the engine from starting unless the clutch pedal is depressed, even when the vehicle is in neutral.
Some vehicles have the transmission control module (TCM), while others have it integrated with the engine control (ECM/ECU). These two modules can be combined into one module called the PCM (powertrain management module).
