If the powertrain controller module (PCM), or transmission control modules (TCM), detects an issue with the reverse input, P0812 is activated.
Depending upon the make and type of vehicle, the reverse sensor (or switch) can be either an independent component or integrated with the neutral safety switches. Many manual transmission vehicles use an independent reverse sensor. Automatic transmission vehicles typically include a neutral safety switch.
