What is the P0813 fault code and what does it mean? What is Reverse Output Circuit Malfunction? How can you fix the P0813 error code? What are the causes and symptoms of the P0813 error code?

What is the P0813 Fault code? What does it all mean?

When the powertrain control module or transmission control module detects a problem with the voltage signal from reverse output circuit, a code P0813 will be triggered.

Depending upon the make and type of vehicle, the reverse sensor (or switch) can be either an independent component or integrated with the neutral safety switches. Many manual transmission vehicles use an independent reverse sensor. Automatic transmission vehicles typically include a neutral safety switch.

The PCM/TCM calculates data from both the vehicle speed sensor (or wheel speed sensors) to determine the vehicle’s direction of travel. The PCM also conducts periodic self-tests in order to ensure that system circuit voltage is within the parameters. Fault code P0813 will be set if the PCM detects the vehicle in reverse and does not receive a signal from its reverse sensor.

P0813 fault codes can affect vehicles of all makes and models, including but not limited to: Peugeot, Hyundai Fiat Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar Alfa Romeo Toyota, Honda Acura Lexus, Lexus, Lexus, Toyota, Fiat, Fiat, Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-Benz, Fiat, Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar.

What causes the P0813 Fault code?

Here are some reasons why P0813 should be set.

  • – Defective reverse sensor or neutral safety switching
  • – Broken wires, rusty or loose connectors for the reversing sensor
  • – Electric connections that create an open or shortcircuit
  • – Blown fuse
  • – Rarely, incorrectly or defectively programmed PCM

What are the symptoms for the P0813 Fault Coding?

These symptoms may be present if you own a vehicle that has the code “P0813”:

  • – The engine fault lamp comes on (in certain models, it comes on after the fault has been detected at least 2-3x).
  • – Reversing lights not working or constantly lit

How to Fix the P0813 Fault Code

The wiring and connectors of the circuit must be checked for damage, shorts and fraying when diagnosing the P0813 OBDII fault code. The connectors should be checked for signs of corrosion as well as broken pins. Also, the correct fuses and bulbs must be checked for any signs of corrosion.

The following repairs may be able to resolve the P0813 fault code:

  • – Replacing the faulty neutral safety switch or reversing sensor
  • Repair and replacement damaged cables and worn connectors
  • – Resolve electrical problems such as short or open circuits
  • – Checking fuse fuses and replacing broken fuses

How serious is the P0813 Fault code?

While the code P0813 will not affect vehicle drivability, it could cause vehicle safety problems. This could pose a danger to pedestrians or other drivers as they will not be able to see the driver’s position when he engages the reverse gear. It is important to fix the problem as soon as possible.
