What is P0833 fault code? What is the Clutch Pedal Switch B Circuit fault description? How to fix the P0833 fault code What are the causes and symptoms of the P0833 error code?
What is the P0833 Fault code? What does it signify?
If the powertrain control module (PCM), detects fault in the clutch pedal switch (also known by the clutch pedal position sensor (B) circuit), a code P0833 will be set. This code only applies to vehicles with manual transmission.
Through the “B” circuit of the clutch pedal switch, the PCM monitors clutch pedal position. This sensor’s design may differ from one vehicle to the next. It is usually a switch that turns on and off the clutch pedal support bracket. The switch’s one side has a constant voltage. The contact on the switch makes contact with the starter motor or starter solenoid by pressing down on the clutch pedal. This completes the circuit that allows for the engine to start. This circuit and switch disables the engine from starting if the clutch pedal is not depressed. Refer to the repair manuals for specific information about how to identify the “B” circuit in your vehicle.
There are many models of Jaguar and Dodge, Chrysler, Chevys, Saturn, Pontiac and Pontiac that are prone to the P0833 fault code.
What causes the P0833 Fault code?
Here are some reasons why P0833 should be set.
- – Sensor to detect the clutch pedal position sensor is defective
- – Sensor for clutch pedal position sensor not correctly adjusted
- – Damaged or melted wires, broken connectors, open and short circuits
- – Fusible link or blown fuse (if applicable).
Note: If the code is set on an auto transmission vehicle, it is likely that there is a problem with the programming or malfunction of the PCM.
What are the symptoms for the P0833 fault code?
These symptoms may be present in vehicles with code P0833.
- – Illumination for the check engine light
- – It is possible that the vehicle will not start.
- – The clutch pedal can be depressed to start the car
How to Fix the P0833 Fault Code
Some repairs that could resolve the P0833 fault code are:
- – Replacing a defective clutch pedal position sensor
- – Recalibration of the clutch pedal position sensor
- – Repair or replacement for worn or damaged electrical components
- – Replace a blown fuse/fuse link (if applicable).
- – Replacing the PCM on vehicles equipped with automatic transmission
Note: When repairing this code, the most common error is to replace the solenoid or starter.
How Serious Is the P0833 Fault Coding?
Sometimes symptoms might not manifest or seem small after setting the code. This code should not be ignored as it could cause the tool not to start. It indicates a major functionality problem that could lead to costly repairs in the future.
