What is the P0852 Fault code? What does it all mean?
A P0852 code indicates that there is a fault in the input circuit of the park/neutral switch. This code can only be found on all-wheel-drive vehicles and cars with automatic transmissions.
A park/neutral button is used on all-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicles as well as vehicles with automatic transmissions to inform the powertrain controller module (PCM), whether the transmission is in park/neutral. This information is required to ensure that the transmission works properly and prevents the 4WD system’s inability from engaging if the PCM doesn’t have it. If the PCM receives more than the maximum voltage signal from the neutral switch circuit, a malfunction code P0852 will be issued.
The PCM calculates engine speed, engine timing and fuel delivery using data from the torque converter lock up solenoid and speed sensors. If the data from these sensors shows that the transmission gear range does not meet the set parameters, the code will be stored.
