What is P0900 fault code and how does it work? What is the Clutch Actuator Open Circuit fault? How to fix P0900 fault codes? What are the causes and symptoms of the P0900 error code?

What is the P0900 fault code? What does it stand for?

If the powertrain control module (PCM/ECM/ECU) detects an opening in the clutch actuator control circuit, a code P0900 will be set.

The function of the clutch actuator in semi-automatic vehicles is to change gears. The clutch actuator is used to engage and deactivate the clutch by the PCM, or transmission control module (TCM). The PCM uses the clutch actuator to engage and disengage the transmission when the vehicle reaches shift point. Actuators select the current gear and, depending on operating conditions, high or low gears are selected. The PCM/TCM verifies that the next gear is selected using various position sensors. This activates the clutch actuator to engage it, reconnecting the engine and transmission. When the PCM/TCM detects an incorrect voltage or resistance within the clutch actuator circuit, a code P0900 will be triggered.

There are many models of Honda Land Rover, Ford and Toyota that are susceptible to the P0900 fault code.

What causes the P0900 Fault code?

Here are some reasons why P0900 should be set:

  • Defective clutch actuator
  • – Damaged wiring or loose connectors.
  • – A defective solenoid or sensor
  • – Defective clutch mastercylinder
  • – If applicable, blown fuse or fuse link
  • – TCM and PCM issues (rarely)

What are the symptoms of the P0900 Fault Code?

You may experience the following symptoms if your vehicle has the code P0900:

  • – Illumination for the check engine light
  • – The transmission warning lamp is now available
  • – Difficulty with gear changes
  • Transmissions may not shift or remain in one gear.
  • – Your engine could not start or stall during driving
  • Safe mode: PCM may decrease vehicle performance

How do I fix the P0900 fault code?

The following repairs may be able to resolve the P0900 fault code:

  • – Repair of short or open circuits in the clutch actuator circuit
  • – Connectors and wires that aren’t connected to the clutch actuator circuit can be repaired.
  • – Replacing a damaged sensor or solenoid
  • – Replacing the defective clutch actuator
  • – Replacing the clutch master cylinder.
  • – Replacing a fuse or fuse link (if applicable)
  • – Replacement of or reprogramming the PCM or TCM (rarely).

How Serious Is the P0900 Fault Coding?

You should take P0900 as a serious code. The vehicle may not start until it is fixed. The vehicle may not shift correctly and the owner could be stranded on the road. The vehicle may sustain internal transmission damage if it is continued to be driven in this manner. It is important to have the vehicle checked out by a mechanic as soon possible.
