What is the P0901 fault codes? What is the Clutch Actuator Circuit Range/Performance loss description? How can you fix P0901 fault codes? What are the causes of P0901 fault code symptoms?

What is the P0901 Fault code? What does it signify?

A code P0901 is set if the powertrain control module (PCM / ECM / ECU) detects that the clutch actuator circuit is not operating within the manufacturer-specified range.

The clutch actuator’s job is to make gear changes for semi-automatic transmission vehicles. The clutch actuator is used by the PCM (transmission control module) to engage or disengage the clutch. The PCM uses the clutch actuator to engage and disengage the transmission when the vehicle reaches shift point. Actuators select the current gear and, depending on operating conditions, high or low gears are selected. The PCM/TCM uses various position sensors to confirm that the next gear was selected. It then activates the clutch actuator to engage it, reconnecting the engine and transmission.

There are many models of Honda Land Rover, Ford Land Rover, Toyota, Smart Mazda, Citroen Hyundai, Nissan, Peugeot and Volkswagen that are susceptible to the P0901 fault code.

What causes the P0901 Fault code?

Below are some reasons to set fault code P0901.

  • – Defective clutch actuator
  • – Damaged wiring, loose connections, open circuits or short circuits related to clutch actuator circuit
  • – Solenoid defect or defective sensor
  • – Defective clutch mastercylinder
  • Blown fuse, or fuse links (if applicable).
  • – TCM or PCM problems

What are the symptoms of the P0901 Fault code?

The following symptoms may be experienced by anyone who has a vehicle that is coded P0901.

  • – Illumination for the check engine light
  • Transmission warning lamp now on
  • – Difficulty changing gears
  • Transmission may not shift, or be stuck in any one of the gears
  • – The engine could not start or stop while you are driving

How to Fix the P0901 Fault Code

There are several repairs that can resolve the P0901 fault code.

  • Repair of short and open circuits that are related to the clutch actuator circuit
  • – Connectors and wires that aren’t connected to the clutch actuator circuit can be repaired.
  • – Replacing a damaged sensor or solenoid
  • – Replacing the defective clutch actuator
  • Repairing a clutch master cylinder that is defective
  • – Replacing a blown fuse (or fuse links)
  • – Reprogramming or replacement of the PCM/TCM (rarely).

How Serious Is the P0901 Fault Code

No matter whether your vehicle has an automatic or semi-automatic transmission, it’s important that your vehicle can change gears at appropriate times. This code has a moderate severity, but internal components of the transmission can be damaged if it isn’t shifting correctly. Driving can be dangerous if the clutch actuator fails.
