What is the P1100 Fault code? What does it signify?
If the powertrain control module, P1100 detects that the voltage signal from mass air flow sensor is intermittent/intermittent or not at all, a malfunction code is issued. Other MAF sensor fault codes such as P1101,P1102, P1103 or P1104 may also be displayed with this code.
The MAF sensor measures the volume and density of air entering an engine. This information is used by PCM to calculate the correct fuel/air mixture and improve engine performance.
There are many designs for the MAF sensor. The most popular is the hot wire design. It usually has two wires. One of the wires is heated to a certain degree (about 93°C / 200°F) by a microprocessor inside the sensor. The wire’s resistance changes as a result of the air flow that passes over it. The amount of air that is taken into the engine increases with increasing engine speed. The current that is sent to the cable increases with an increase in air flow. This statistical data allows the PCM to calculate the volume of air that is being taken into the engine.
The PCM continuously monitors the MAF sensor circuitry to detect sudden changes in airflow and voltage input. A P1100 code will be triggered if, within the last 40 warm up cycles, the PCM detects any voltage change that is either well above or below the calibrated limit.
