What is the P2299 fault number? What is the Brake Pedal Position/Accelerator Pedal Position Mismatch fault codes description? How can you fix P2299 fault code What are the causes and symptoms of the P2299 error code?
What is the P2299 Fault Code and what does it mean? What does it signify?
The powertrain control modules (PCMs) monitor both the accelerator pedal as well as the brake pedal. The powertrain control module (PCM) monitors the output of the accelerator pedal voltage via the accelerator pedal position sensor (APP). This ensures that all systems work properly. The P2299 fault code is triggered if the PCM receives impossible signals from the accelerator pedal or brake pedal.
This code should be set so that the driver drives with one foot on accelerator pedal and the other on brake pedal. Sometimes, the brake pedal position sensor/switch may become stuck in a depressed state. The voltage signal to the PCM will not change if the pedal assemblies become stuck mechanically. If the problem persists more than five seconds, the ETC or check engine light will illuminate and then the PCM will go to fault mode. The PCM will think that both the accelerator pedal and brake pedal are simultaneously depressed and will make the vehicle unstable.
P2299 fault codes can be applied to vehicles made by Dodge, Hyundai and Chrysler.
What causes the P2299 Fault code?
These are the most common reasons that P2299 fault codes are activated:
- – At the same time, the driver presses the accelerator pedal AND the brake pedal simultaneously
- – Uncalibrated brake pedal
- – Bad or stuck brake pedal position sensor/switch
- – Position sensor for stuck or defective accelerator pedal position sensor
- – Sticky or dirty throttle blade
- – Broken, faulty, or short-circuited connectors and cables
What are the symptoms for P2299 Fault Codes?
You may experience the following symptoms if your vehicle has the code P2299:
- – Illumination for check engine light
- – ETC light (Electronic Throttle Control).
- – Lower engine performance
- – PCM could restrict throttle opening, rendering the accelerator unresponsive
- – The vehicle is only able to run at idle
How do I fix the P2299 fault code?
The following repairs may be able to resolve the P2299 fault code:
- – Driving habits change (don’t press the accelerator or brake pedal simultaneously).
- – Adjustment of brake pedal position sensor/switch
- – Repair of damaged or short-circuited connectors and cables
- – Replacing a defective brake pedal position sensor / switching
- – Replacing the accelerator pedal position sensor
- – Calibrating and checking pedals
How serious is the P2299 Fault code?
You should take seriously a set P2299 fault code. While this code will not cause any damages to your vehicle it could put you or your passengers in dangerous driving situations. The risk of a collision with another vehicle from behind can increase if a moving vehicle becomes unresponsive. It is important to fix it as soon possible.
