When should I change my transmission oil? When is it time to change the antifreeze When should you change your brake fluid? When should I replace my timing belt ?
Changes in Coolant (Antifreeze).
Antifreezes of today last for 5 years, or 160,000-240,000 kilometers depending on which comes first. Antifreeze is not meant to last forever and must be regularly replaced. The anti-corrosion chemical in antifreeze may lose its properties after five year. It is important to replace the coolant promptly as it can cause damage to the radiator and other components of the cooling system. Your cooling system will last longer if the coolant is changed every five years. It is crucial to use the same antifreeze for all vehicles or a universal one.
Transmission Fluid Change
Your owner’s manual may not specify an interval for automatic transmission fluid changes, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it will take forever. Transmission fluids today are made of synthetic lubricants that last longer than those used a few years back. But heat and extreme use can cause oil to lose its properties and oxidize. Many transmission experts suggest that the oil should be changed every 80,000 kilometers to extend its life. There are many types of ATF. Make sure you use the one that is right for your transmission. The wrong type could cause transmission problems.
Brake Fluid Change
Most drivers won’t change their brake fluid unless there is an issue with their vehicle’s brake system. After a while, brake fluid can begin to become dampened. This decreases the hydraulic’s boiling resistance. The risk of boiling the fluid increases and causes the brake pedals to become looser when it is used hard. The fluid’s corrosion inhibitors begin to lose their properties from moisture. This can cause corrosion and failure of the brake calipers, master cylinder, brake cables, ABS hydraulic unit, and wheel cylinders. This can be prevented by changing the fluid every three to five year. It will also prolong the life of your brake system. With chemical test strips that can be purchased at spare parts stores, you can check the condition and quality of your brake fluid.
Battery Replacement
Most drivers don’t even consider replacing their battery until the car stops. In warm climates, the average lead acid wet cell battery life is three years. Otherwise, it can last up to five years. AGM (Absorbent glass mat) batteries can last for 1-2 more years than these batteries. All car batteries eventually expire and will need to be replaced. Don’t expect a setback if your battery is older than five years. Instead, consider replacing it.
Timing Belt Replacement
The timing belt is the part of an engine that transmits movement from the crankshaft through the camshaft. It also provides timing synchronization between the crankshaft, camshaft, and crankshaft. A rubber belt is made from synthetic rubber like EPDM or HSN and can last between 96,000 and 160,000 km, depending on how often it is used. If it does break, it should be replaced immediately to avoid expensive repairs. For the recommended replacement interval, check the owner’s guide if your vehicle has a Timing Belt. Even if you have low mileage, the belt should be replaced every 4 years.
If the belt is not replaced and breaks (if your Interference engine has one), the timing intervals for the valves will be broken. Valves that have been out of time will stay open longer than they should. The pistons impact open valves and cause them bend. The impact causes damage to the pistons. The cylinder block is damaged by the fragments that fall into its combustion chamber. The engine might need to be completely overhauled in this instance.
You don’t have to do anything if your engine uses a steel timing belt instead of a timing chain. Timing chains typically last for 300,000 km or more.
