What is the U0108 fault number? What is the description for Lost Communication with Alternative Fuel Control Module Failure (AFCM). How do you fix U0108 fault codes? What are the causes and symptoms of U0108 fault code

What is U0108 Fault Coding? What does it mean

The automotive industry’s most common circuit for control modules and other electronic parts to communicate is the. “Controller Area Network (CAN)” bus. The manufacturer will pre-programme the data to be sent to the modules. Operating information and commands can also be exchanged via CAN bus.

Two special copper wires called “CAN High” (High) “CAN Low” These cables are used to communicate (lower). These cables come in different colors. The black wire is the highest, while the orange-brown one is the lowest. When there is no data transmission, both wires have 2.5V. During data transmission, both the high priority and low priority lines rise to 3.75V and 1.25V respectively, creating a 2.5V gap between them. The voltage difference between two bus lines is the basis of communication.

Based on information from powertrain control module (PCM), an alternative fuel control (AFCM) activates fuel pump. The fuel pump will stop working if there is a data interruption. On vehicles that use alternative fuels, such as compressed or liquefied gas (LNG), liquefied petroleum gases (LPG), the AFCM controls whether the fuel pump is on or off. In these applications, the AFCM can also be called Smart Relay Module. It may also provide fuel level information to instrument clusters. Mistake code U0108 will be set if the PCM or any other control modules cannot communicate with the alternative fuel controller module.

Some vehicles are susceptible to the U0108 fault code, including, but not limited, to various models of Suzuki and Mitsubishi, Ford, Chrysler Dodge, Jeep, Ram GMC, Volkswagen, and Chevrolet.

What is the U0108 Fault Code?

Here are some reasons to assign U0108 as a fault code:

  • – The wires are damaged, melted, broken, or corroded, which can cause an open or brief circuit in the CAN bus
  • – Bad electricity because of open or short circuit problems in your wiring.
  • – Pins broken or bent on alternative fuel control module sockets
  • – Blown Fuses
  • – Faulty alternative fuel control module (rarely)

What are the symptoms of the U0108 Fault code?

You may experience the following symptoms if your vehicle has the U0108 code:

  • – Illumination at the check engine lights
  • Starts, but the engine may not turn on
  • You may have performance issues, such as misfires, stumbles or loss of power, even though your engine is running.
  • – The fuel level gauge could be defective, fluctuating, or not showing at all
  • – Increased fuel use
  • – Setting related fault codes

How do I fix the U0108 fault code?

There are several repairs that can be made to resolve the U0108 fault code:

  • – Repair or replacement for damaged, melted and corroded wires which cause an open circuit or short circuit in the CAN bus
  • – Repair or replacement damaged, melted or corroded wires that lead to an open circuit or short circuit to the alternative fuel controller module
  • – Replacing blownfuses
  • – Clean the connectors of alternative fuel control modules
  • – Repair bent or broken pins
  • – Replacing a faulty alternative fuel control module

How serious is the U0108 Fault code?

Failures in control modules must always be considered serious. The code will set the engine to crank, but not start. Your vehicle may experience performance issues such as misfires, stalling, weak acceleration, and stumbling even if it is running. You may experience your vehicle stop unexpectedly, which could lead to an accident. This code should not be ignored and it should be fixed as soon as possible.
