What is the U0109 fault code What is the description for Lost Communication with Fuel Pump Control Module Failure (FPCM)? How do you fix U0109 fault codes? What are the symptoms and causes for the U0109 error code?

What is U0109 Fault Coding? What does it signify?

The circuit used most often by control modules and electronic components in the automotive industry to communicate with one another is the “Controller Area Network (CAN)” bus. The manufacturer has preprogrammed the data that should be sent to each module. Operation information and commands are also exchanged via theCAN bus.

Two special copper wires called “CAN High” (High) “CAN Low” They are used for communication. They come in different colors. The wires are arranged in different colors. When there is no data transmission, both wires have 2.5V. During data transmission, both the high priority and low priority lines rise to 3.75V, while the lower priority line drops to 1.25V. This creates 2.5V between the lines. The voltage difference between bus lines determines communication.

Based on information from the powertrain controller module (PCM), fuel pump control module (FPCM), drives the fuel pumps. The fuel pump will stop working if there is a data interruption. These modules are used mainly in gasoline engines but have seen an increase in their use in new diesel engines. Mistake code U0109 can be issued if the PCM, or other control modules, is unable to communicate directly with the fuel control module.

The U0109 fault code can affect vehicles of all makes and models, including but not limited to Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai or Cadillac, Ford, Chrysler Dodge, Jeep, Ram GMC, Volkswagen, and Chevrolet.

What causes the U0109 Fault code?

Below are some reasons why U0109 should be assigned:

  • – Broken, damaged, melted or corroded wires that cause an open circuit in the CAN bus
  • – Poor electricity due to open or short circuit problems in wiring to fuel pump control module.
  • – Pins broken or bent on fuel pump control module sockets
  • – Blown Fuses
  • – Defective fuel pump control module (rarely)

What are the symptoms of the U0109 Fault code?

You may experience the following symptoms if your vehicle has the U0109 code:

  • – Illumination for the check engine light
  • Starts, but the engine may not turn on
  • Even though the engine is running, you may experience performance issues like misfires, stumbles, or lack of power.
  • – Increased fuel consumption
  • – Other fault codes can be set

How to Fix the U0109 Fault Code

The following repairs may be able to resolve the U0109 fault code:

  • – Repair or replacement for damaged, melted and corroded wires that are causing an open or brief circuit on the CAN bus
  • Repair or replace broken, melted, or corroded wires to fuel pump control module, causing an opening or short circuit.
  • – Replacing blownfuses
  • – Clean the fuel pump control module connectors that are corroded
  • Repair bent or broken pins
  • – Replacing the fuel pump control unit that is faulty

How Serious Is the U0109 Fault Code

Failures in control modules must always be considered serious. The code will set the engine to crank, but not start. Your vehicle may experience performance issues such as misfires, stalling, weak acceleration, and stumbling even if it is running. The vehicle could stop abruptly and cause an accident. This code should not be ignored and it should be fixed as soon as possible.
