What is a Temperature Sensor (Heat Sensor)?
The Temperature sensor , It is used to monitor engine coolant temperature. To measure coolant temperature, most sensors use an electric resistor. It sends the signal to the PCM. This allows the PCM to be informed about the engine condition and calculate the necessary fuel/air mixture ratio. The PCM will take a number of steps to protect the engine from damage if it detects an engine temperature too high.
The temperature plays an important role in engine performance calculations. A malfunctioning temperature sensor can lead to many problems.
Fuel consumption is rising
A temperature sensor failure can lead to an increase in fuel consumption. A malfunctioning sensor can send incorrect information to the computer. This can cause fuel timing calculations to fail. The temperature sensor constantly sends a signal to the PCM that the engine has become cold, even though it is hot. This is a sign that the PCM is sending too many fuel. This will increase fuel consumption as well as adversely impact engine performance.
Exhaust: Black Smoke
A temperature sensor fault can also cause black smoke to come from the exhaust. If the temperature sensor sends a constant, cold signal to its PCM, it can confuse the PCM and unnecessarily enhance the fuel mixture. The fuel mixture too rich in nutrients will result in excess dew in the combustion chamber, and the exhaust will emit black smoke.
Overtemperature Gauge
An additional sign of a temperature sensor failure is an increased temperature. Temperature sensor malfunctions can cause the temperature sensor to send out a constant signal that is hot. This signal can cause engine misfires and false alarms, such as overtemperature.
Warning Lamp for Engine Failure
Another sign of a bad temperature sensor is a permanently lit engine warning lamp. If the temperature sensor detects an issue, vehicles may lighten the check engine lamp. The check engine light will remain on until the problem has been resolved.
