What is rodage? What does it mean to roll? How is the engine opened? What is the break-in time ?….

The word Rodaj” was transcribed from the French word. “Rodage” Both means and methods “Exercise” Turkish It is the process of acclimatizing the components of an engine so that they work in harmony. It is used in general as “engine opening” Among the people.

Your car’s engine is an investment that will affect its performance, efficiency, longevity and overall quality. Driving can be dangerous if the engine is not maintained properly.

The auto industry has had serious discussions about break-in. Do new cars need to be driven in? Or shouldn’t it? With technological advances, people are increasingly claiming that this is not necessary. However, manufacturers like BMW strongly recommend breaking in an engine.

The M4 engine has a limit of 5500 RPM for the first 2000 kilometers and 170 km/h thereafter. This is according to the operator’s manual. It also prohibited the use turbo or bottom gas. The recommendations are still valid after 2000 kilometers. He suggests that the engine speed be increased gradually over 2000 to 5000 km. However, the speed should not exceed 220 km/h. It is best to avoid constant speeds.

We support the views of many auto manufacturers regarding breaking-in (engine-opening), although it is a controversial topic. Who knows your engine better than the company that makes it? Running-in is required by most automobile manufacturers for good reasons. While the basic engine is already running at the factory, this is still not enough. A new engine must be properly broken in before it can operate normally. This period is determined by the engine’s break in. The engine’s running-in period ensures that the piston rings are placed and that the bearings and the cylinders wear evenly. This process benefits the transmission, clutch and tires as well as brakes. Not only is it necessary for new vehicles but also for engines that have been overhauled.

How is engine opening (break-in) done?

  • Running in the first 2500km is recommended. You can then press the button as many times you like. Modern car manufacturers have reduced the time by reducing it to around 1000 km.
  • After starting the engine, warm up the engine for 30 seconds – 1 minute.
  • Avoid sudden acceleration or sudden braking.
  • – Do NOT change the gears too often or too slow to wear out your engine.
  • – Don’t let your gasoline engine reach more than 2500 rpm within the first 1000km. Between 1000-1500 km, you can run up to 3000 times. You can increase the revs gradually if it is between 1500-2500km.
  • Limit the engine’s rpm to around 2200 RPM for the first 1000 kilometers. You can increase the engine’s rpm from 1000-1500 km to 2500-2800 rpm. You can increase the revs gradually if it is between 1500-2500km.
  • Running-in is negatively affected by long trips and stop-and-go traffic. Breaking in is done to allow the engine to run at different RPMs. This means that you need to change your driving style and test the engine under different conditions. Also, you should not drive the vehicle at constant speed. You should change it even if there are small differences. Keep the speed variable while driving. You can lower the speed or increase it but not too fast. High speeds increase friction between parts, such as pistons or cylinders. As the parts have not adapted, the engine oil may not have reached all points. This leads to rapid wear.
  • After 1000km, you must change your engine oil. There will be some metal parts mixed in your engine oil as you would with any new engine. You can now listen to the manufacturer’s suggestions. Experts and manufacturers recommend a range of 100 to 200 km. It is recommended that you change your engine oil once and then again after 1000km.
  • For the first 10,000 kilometers, do not use synthetic oil. Synthetic oils have a slower running-in time because of their properties.
  • – At least once per week, check the oil and coolant levels. The engine is still new so you don’t have any idea how much oil it will require.

These simple steps will ensure your engine’s maximum performance and durability. This will increase engine power, fuel economy, and engine life. Many cars are made to resist damage from bad breaking-in. These tools are not immune to the benefits of good running-in.
