What is the P0008 fault number? What causes the P0008 fault code How do you fix the P0008 fault code Performance of Engine Positions System: What is Bank 1 failure? ?….
What is the Fault Code P0008?
Fault code 0008 refers to mechanical timing. Misalignment code number P0008 will be activated if the Engine Control module (ECU / ECM/ PCM) detects misalignment in the crankshaft or camshaft. The engine control module uses sensors and compares the position of the crankshaft (s) and camshaft(s). If the crankshaft is out of alignment, the engine control module generates a fault code.
There are many vehicles with P0008 as the most frequent fault code. These include Chevrolet models (especially Chevy Traverse), GM and GMC, Cadillac, Buick. Holden, Suzuki.
What are the symptoms of the P0008 Fault code?
Fault code P0008 refers to improper timing of the engine. It causes the engine’s to run irregularly. The most noticeable symptoms are:
- – Engine fault light illuminates
- Vehicle is acting strangely when you accelerate
- – Idle irregularity
- – Increased fuel consumption
- – Reduced engine performance and power
- – Engine / timing chain making clicking and rattling sound
- – Engine is not running
What causes the P0008 Fault code?
When there is a problem in the timing chain, the P0008 fault code will usually be displayed. Here are some reasons why:
- Engine timing out of sync
- – A loose and extended timing chain
- – Defective timing chain tensioner
- – Don’t wear timing gears or guides
- – Defective crankshaft or camshaft sensor
- – A defective or displaced crankshaft relay wheel
- – Cable damage
- Low engine oil
- – Defective variable timing actuator (phaser).
- – Defective oil control valve solenoid timing solenoid
- – Rarely, an engine control unit (ECU/ECM/PCM) that is not working properly or out of date may be required.
Notice: The fault symptoms may differ if the fault is due to the engine control unit.
How do I fix the P0008 fault code?
- – Visually inspect the tensioner and timing chain for wear, elongation, or misalignment.
- To ensure proper positioning, the crankshaft reluctor must be inspected.
- – All damaged or defective parts must immediately be replaced
- To check if the check engine lamp comes on, reset the code and restart the engine.
- – The engine control unit may be at fault if there are no broken parts or the problem has not been resolved. Except for the malfunction lamps, if the ECU shows no signs of malfunction, it’s likely the ECU is defective.
This fault is visible with the following codes: P0010; P0011, P0012, and P0015.
How serious is the P0008 Fault code?
You will have poor engine performance if the P0008 fault code not addressed immediately. The vehicle stops running at idle. The vehicle’s fuel consumption and engine power drop dramatically. It can cause engine damage and degrade internal components.
