What is the P2101 fault code What is the description of the Throttle Actuator “A” Control Motor Circuit Range/Performance failure? How do you fix the P2101 fault code What are the causes and symptoms of the P2101 error code?
What is the P2101 Fault code? What does it signify?
When the powertrain control module, PCM detects that the throttle position is not in line with the intended throttle position, a code P2101 will be triggered. Once the code has been set, the PCM will put your vehicle in “failsafe” mode.
The PCM calculates the throttle position using inputs from the throttle location (APP) sensors as well as the throttle position sensors. Based on the PCM signals, the throttle plates opens and closes. If the PCM detects that the throttle actuator “A” control motor circuit signals are out of specification, a code P2101 will be triggered.
P2101 is usually caused by problems in the electrical circuit. It can also be caused by mechanical problems, such as stuck throttle plates or other unusual circumstances.
The P2101 fault code can affect vehicles from Nissan, Infiniti and Mercury as well as models from GM, Suzuki Mazda, Dodge, Ford, and Dodge.
This fault code may not be listed on some vehicles, such as the 2017 Toyota Camry. The manufacturer of the vehicle may give a different meaning to the code.
In Nissan, the fault code P2101 is:
An issue with the return spring causes the electric throttle control actuator to stop working properly.
In fail-safe mode, the throttle opening angle is not within the range.
The ECM detects that there is no throttle valve open.
Ford explains P2101’s fault code as:
Motor circuits crossed-wired and throttle control actuator.
Restrictions on intake air system
Throttle plate restrictions
It’s a bit different for GM cars:
The PCM detected that the throttle position is not consistent with the predicted position by more than one second.
The PCM detects if the throttle control is being turned in an unsuitable direction or exceeding its reduced power limit.
What Causes the P2101 Fault code?
Here are some reasons why P2101 should be set.
- – Defective accelerator pedal position sensors
- – Defective throttle positioning sensor
- – Motor defective for throttle control
- – Troubles with the throttle actuator circuit (bad wiring or loose connectors), open or short circuits
- Vacuum leakage in the suction tube
- – Defective PCM / ECM / ECU
What are the symptoms for the P2101 fault code?
You may experience the following symptoms if your vehicle has the code P2101.
- – Illumination at the check engine lights
- – Low idle speed or high
- – The engine might not start at all
- – Reduced throttle response or no
- – Acceleration should not be shaken or slowed down.
- – Put the vehicle in fail-safe mode
How do I fix the P2101 fault code?
P2101 fault codes may be set for many reasons. You can find out the exact cause of this code by looking at your vehicle model and make.
For some vehicles, the code could be reset by pressing the accelerator pedal with ignition off. This problem can be resolved by simply reseting the code without needing to make any repairs.
- – Repair of the damaged throttle body
- – A clogged or dirty throttle plate
- – Replacing the throttle actuator unit
- – Repairing the wires and connectors that connect to the throttle actuator.
- – Repair of intake gas vacuum leaks
- – Replacing PCM
How serious is the P2101 Fault Code
If fault code P2101 was set, the throttle will not open or close. This means that the vehicle can’t be driven or accelerated. Fault code P2101 should be set on your vehicle. It must be fixed as soon as possible.
