What is the P0018 fault number? What is the Crankshaft Position and Camshaft Position (Bank 2, Sensor B) failure description? How can you fix P0018 fault? What are the symptoms and causes for the P0018 fault code

What is the P0018 Fault code? What does it all mean?

For the engine to work efficiently and smoothly, all components must be in perfect sync. Modern vehicles have many components and systems that improve their performance and fuel economy. Variable valve timing (VVT), is one of the most prominent examples. This system adjusts engine performance by adjusting the camshaft position relative it the crankshaft.

Camshaft position sensor CMP and crankshaft position sensor CKP work together to keep your engine running smoothly. The CKP monitors speed and position for the crankshaft and the CMP monitors speed and position for the camshaft(s). Each sensor has a reluctor rings. The crankshaft or crankshaft pulley is where the CKP’s receptacle ring is located. The CMP’s relay ring is found on the camshaft, gear.

The powertrain control module, or PCM, compares the information it gets from the CMP and the CKP. This allows the PCM check if the engine has been timed correctly.

When the intake camshaft(s), (Sensor A) on the 2nd row (side not including Cylinder 1) is not in the right position relative to the crankshaft, the PCM will generate a code P0018.

What is the P0018 Fault Code?

You should be aware of the possibility of crankshaft and camshaft correlation issues if your engine has variable valve timing.

  • – Defective camshaft variable valve timing solenoid
  • Low engine oil
  • – Oil with an insufficient viscosity.
  • – Incorrect engine timing
  • – Bad or stuck variable valve timing actuator
  • – A worn timing chain or belt that has not been used.
  • – Missing timing belt or timing chain
  • – A defective timing chain tensioner/guides
  • – Defective oil control valve (OCV)
  • – Broken crankshaft relay wheel
  • – Damaged camshaft relay wheel
  • – Defective crankshaft sensor
  • – Defective camshaft sensor
  • – Damage to the wiring connecting the crankshaft and sensors for camshaft sensors.

What are the symptoms for P0018 fault code?

  • – Illumination for the engine fault lamp
  • Low engine performance
  • – Engine running hard, or not at all
  • Engine stalling when driving
  • – Unusual operation of the engine
  • – Engine hesitation during acceleration
  • – Increased fuel use
  • Clicking sound from engine

How to Fix the P0018 Fault Code

  • – Check the oil. Check the engine oil for low levels, and replace any that are dirty.
  • Repair the camshaft sensor bank 2 wiring and connectors
  • Repair of camshaft oil valve (OCV), wiring and connections
  • – Row 2: OCV change
  • – Replacing camshaft sensor bank 2
  • – Replacing worn out reluctor rings
  • – Replacing the defective crankshaft sensor
  • – Replacing worn or misaligned timing chains or timing belts

Note: Code P0018 is identical to code P0016. It indicates an engine fault (Bank 1). Both codes can be found if low oil pressure is suspected.

How serious is the P0018 fault code?

P0018 fault code is difficult and has high priority. This could cause serious driving issues, such as hesitation, stalling, and hard starting. It can lead to serious engine damage if not addressed immediately.
