What is the P0019 fault number? What is the Crankshaft Position- Camshaft Position Correlation Bank 2 Sensor B failure description? How can you fix P0019 fault codes? What are the symptoms and causes for the P0019 fault code
What is the P0019 Fault code? What does it signify?
The fault code P0019 is issued to the powertrain control module. It detects misalignment between the crankshaft position (PCM), and the exhaust camshaft location in Bank 2. “Bank 2” refers the engine row that is opposite cylinder 1. “Sensor B”, refers to the exhaust camshaft.
The timing chain or belt links the camshafts and crankshafts. The crankshaft position sensors (CKP), detect the position of the crankshaft, and transmit this information to the PCM. The camshaft position sensor, on the other hand (CMP), detects all camshafts and sends it to the PCM. Both sensors have a reluctor-ring. The crankshaft, or crankshaft pulley, is the usual location for the CKP’s relay ring. CMP’s reluctor rings are located on the gear or camshaft. To avoid engine problems, the timing of cam and crankshaft must be right.
What is the P0019 Fault Code?
- – Problems with the timing chain
- – Damaged or worn timing belt
- – Damaged, loose chain/belt tensioner or guides
- – Crankshaft reluctor ring slipped/broken
- – Camshaft reluctor ring slipped/broken
- – Damaged wiring or loose connections can cause malfunctioning crank/camshaft sensor circuits
- – Defective VVT actuator solenoid
- – Defective VVT actuator
- – Defective VVT oil control valve (OCV)
- Low engine oil
- – Oil with an insufficient viscosity.
- – VVT oil channels blocked
- – Defective PCM
What are the symptoms of the P0019 Fault Code?
You can store additional fault codes with code P0019. If other codes like P0008, P0009 or P0017 are set, symptoms may change.
- – Illumination for the check engine light
- Low engine performance
- Clicking sound coming from engine
- – Engine hesitation during acceleration
- – The engine cranks but doesn’t start
- – Increased fuel consumption
How do I fix the P0019 fault code?
- – Addition of engine oil to replace the oil that is missing.
- – Inspect the OCV, crankshaft and camshaft sensor connectors as well as wiring. You can repair frayed or broken cables, as well as loose connections.
- – Replacing timing gears, chains and guides on both engine row engines
- Replacing damaged relay rings
- – Replacing faulty crank/camshaft sensors
Note: Codes P0019 and P0017 are indicative of the same fault that occurred in different rows. If these codes are both set simultaneously, it could indicate that the problem is with the oil pressure or with the lines to the oil control valves.
How Serious Is the P0019 Fault Coding?
Long-term driving while the camshaft fails can lead to other symptoms like misfires, stalling or not starting. You can see carbon deposits and sparkplug contamination in your engine. Faults in timing chains can lead to piston and valve collisions that can result in major engine damage. It is important to fix the P0019 fault code immediately.
