One or more camshafts are inside the engine. The camshaft has a series of lobes that look like egg-shaped eggs. These lobes are called “cams”. These lobes allow for the opening of a number of intake and exhaust vales as they rotate. Variable valve timing (VVT) is a modern technology that adjusts the camshaft position, which in turn alters the timing of valves.
