What is P0035 fault code? What is the description for a Turbocharger/Supercharger Bypass Valve Circuit High malfunction? How do you fix the P0035 fault code What are the causes of the P0035 fault codes?
What is the P0035 Fault code? What does it signify?
This code is saved when the powertrain controller module (PCM), detects a problem in the turbocharger bypass valve or circuit. Your vehicle can enter a “safe” mode (Limp Mode), where the engine power is reduced to prevent damage to other parts.
A bypass valve is used in turbocharged and supercharged motors. Also known as a compressor bypass, it prevents excess pressure from building up. The bypass valve keeps excess pressure from returning to the turbocharger by closing the throttle quickly. On supercharged engines the bypass valve controls boost pressure by directing the air to the intake manifold.
Most vehicles have a bypass valve controlled by the PCM. The PCM controls electronic valves by sending a voltage signal to the PCM. Vacuum operated valves can be controlled with a solenoid vacuum control. The PCM will save the P0035 fault code if it detects an issue with the bypass valve control circuit or the valve’s control circuit.
What causes the P0035 Fault code?
- – Defective turbocharger/supercharger bypass valve
- – Circuit problems related to bypass valves such as loose connections and damaged wiring
- – Defective turbo pressure sensor
- – The PCM is out of date or has a problem that requires software updating
What are the symptoms for P0035 fault code?
Other relevant fault codes can also be stored depending on the severity of the problem. Other than the P0035 code you can also set the P0034,P0033,P0234, and P0234 codes. If your vehicle is coded P0035, you might notice the following symptoms.
- – Illumination at the check engine lights
- – Unusual sounds from the bypass valve
- – Low engine performance
- – Warming up the engine and transmission
- – The exhaust emits black smoke
- – Sparkplugs can be contaminated
- High engine temperatures cause ignition in the combustion chamber
How to Fix the P0035 Fault Code
- – Conduct a pressure test of the turbocharger/intake system.
- – Check the bypass valve to see if the turbo pressure has risen too much. Some systems can cause bypass valves to become blocked by excessive carbon and oil vapors. If the bypass valve is not fully or slightly closed, it may need to be repaired.
- The pressure sensor could be defective if the pressure test falls within the norm set by the manufacturer.
How serious is the P0035 Fault code?
This fault code must be treated immediately. If the vehicle is left to continue to run without being addressed, severe damage may result, particularly if the pressure is too high.
