What is P0052 fault code? What is the description of the HO2S heater control circuit high (Bank 2 sensor 1) malfunction? How can you fix the fault code P0052? What are the symptoms and causes for the P0052 fault code

What is the P0052 fault code? What does it stand for?

If the powertrain control module, PCM detects a mismatch between the current and desired state of the heated oxygen sensor circuit (HO2S), a code P0052 will trigger. (Heater circuit resistance higher than normal). In the code’s definition, “Bank 2” refers the side of an engine that doesn’t contain cylinder #1. “Sensor 1” indicates a fault in the upstream oxygen sensor leading to the catalytic converter.

O2 sensors (or oxygen sensors) are used for measuring the oxygen content of the exhaust system. They inform the PCM. They are usually mounted in the exhaust pipe downstream of the manifold.

Many oxygen sensors have a heating element that speeds up the temperature to operating temperature. They remain inactive until they reach operational temperature. To fine-tune the mixture of air and fuel, the PCM uses data from the oxygen sensor. The fault code P0052 is created when the oxygen sensor receives a high-voltage signal from the heater controller circuit.

Fault code P0052 can be compared to P0031 and P0032.

What causes the P0052 Fault code?

  • – Defective oxygen sensor (Bank 2 Sensor 1)
  • – A defective O2 sensor heater
  • – If possible, blow the fuse to the heating element
  • – Damaged wires or loose connections in the sensor circuit
  • – Cables can be either open or closed.
  • – Defective PCM

What are the symptoms for P0052’s Fault Code?

  • Illumination of the check engine light
  • Low engine performance
  • – Increased fuel use
  • Sometimes, there may not be any symptoms.

How to Fix the P0052 Fault Code

  • – Replacing the defective oxygen sensor (Bank 2 Sensor 1
  • – Repairing broken wires and loose connections to O2 sensor
  • – If the heater element is short circuited, replace the fuse.
  • – Replacing the defective PCM

How Serious Is the P0052 Fault Coding?

The check engine light is the most common sign of this code. The engine should not be running erratically and the vehicle should be driven carefully until it is fixed.
