What is the P0065 faultcode? What is the Air Assisted Injector Control Range/Performance loss description? How do I fix the P0065 fault code What are the causes and symptoms of the P0065 error code?

What is the P0065 Fault code? What does it stand for?

A code P0065 indicates that the powertrain controller module (PCM), detects a voltage from the air assisted injector control circuit which is not within the manufacturer’s preset parameters.

An air-assisted fuel injector works in the same way as a regular fuel injection. It uses air to help disperse the fuel that is injected/injected into an engine. To start the engine, it will need a richer mixture of air and fuel (more fuel) when it is cold. This special injector is often used to help cold engines start. It helps to evenly spray fuel because of the atomization that happens when air is added to the injector. This not only improves engine performance but also reduces vehicle emissions.

To improve the fuel evaporation of cold engines, many automakers have adopted an air-assisted injection system. The system takes air from the throttle plate and redirects it to the fuel injections through hoses, pipes, or intake manifolds ducts. The PCM controls the flow of fuel into a small chamber. The vacuum from the intake manifold draws air into the chamber and mixes it with the fuel. This creates turbulence that improves atomization. The air-fuel mixture is then sent to a cylinder, where it ignites.

The system design may allow for the control of air assist via a solenoid valve or an idle-speed control valve. The PCM boosts air support at low engine speeds and low RPM to maximize engine vacuum. When the engine runs at high temperatures, the throttle is open, air assist is disabled.

The PCM monitors the air support system using information from the AFR sensor. A P0065 code will trigger if the PCM detects voltage signals in the air-assisted injection circuit that are not compliant with specifications. This is usually an electrical fault. However, it can also be caused by an internal fault within the injector.

There are many models that are susceptible to the P0065 fault code, including those of Subaru, Jaguar and Dodge, Volkswagen, Dodge, Volkswagen.

What is the P0065 Fault Code and Why Does It Happen?

P0065 could be caused by a short circuit in a wire in the air-assisted injection circuit. The PCM that controls the air-assisted injection system could also have failed. In such cases, the PCM will need to be replaced.

Below are some reasons to set fault code P0065:

  • – Defective fuel injector with air-assisted technology
  • – Defective air assist fuel injector valve / solenoid
  • – Loss of connectors or cables that have been damaged.
  • – Short or open circuit problems
  • – Vacuum leakage from injectors, clamps, or hoses
  • – Defective fuse / relay
  • – Defective PCM

What are the symptoms of the P0065 Fault code?

The air-assisted fuel injector system is designed to improve the vehicle’s ability to inject fuel. The voltage to the air assist injector system may not be strong enough to open or close the valve. This could cause the fuel/air mixture to become temporarily too rich when decelerating. This can cause hesitation and stumbling.

These symptoms may be present if you own a vehicle that has the P0065 code.

  • – Illumination for the check engine light
  • – Cold engine can cause hard starting
  • – The engine will not start when it is cold.
  • – The accelerator pedal is released, there will be a slight stumble and stalling in the engine.
  • – An increase in fuel consumption
  • Extreme cases of engine misfire or stalling

How do I fix the P0065 fault code?

The following repairs may be able to resolve the P0065 fault code:

  • – Repair or replacement cables or connectors related to this system
  • – Replacing solenoid / air-assisted injector valve
  • Repair or replacement of vacuum lines connected to the air assisted injector valve
  • – Replacing one or more fuel injections
  • – Reparation or replacement of wiring that is related to the fuel injector system
  • – Reprogramming or replacement of a faulty PCM

To avoid expensive parts replacement, it is important that parts are tested. Wrapping electrical tape around damaged cables is the best and cheapest solution.

How serious is the P0065 Fault code?

This code will not cause any serious damage as long as it is addressed promptly. This code can cause internal engine damage if it is used for prolonged driving. An engine malfunction can lead to abnormal wear. To prevent fuel system damage and avoid additional costs, it is recommended to repair the problem as soon as possible.
