What is P0066 fault code and what does it mean? Air Assisted Irrigator Control Circuit Malfunction/Low. What is its circuit description? How to fix P0066 fault codes? What are the causes and symptoms of the P0066 error code?

What is the P0066 Fault code? What does it signify?

If the powertrain controller module (PCM), detects voltage signals from the air assisted injector control circuit, below the predetermined parameters, P0066 is set.

An air-assisted injection is similar to a regular fuel pump. It uses air to help disperse the fuel that is injected into the engine. To start the engine, it will need a richer mixture of air and fuel (more fuel) when it is cold. This special injector is often used to help cold engines start. When air is fed to the injector, it causes atomization which helps spray the fuel evenly. This improves the engine’s performance and reduces vehicle emissions.

Air-assisted fuel injectors are a popular choice for improving fuel evaporation in cold engines. The system takes air before the throttle plate. It then sends it to the fuel injections via hoses and pipes. The PCM controls the flow of fuel into a small chamber. The vacuum from the intake manifold draws air into the chamber and mixes it with the fuel. This creates turbulence that improves atomization. The air-fuel mixture is then sent to a cylinder, where it ignites.

Depending on the design of your system, you can control air assistance with a special solenoid or idle speed control valve. The PCM provides additional air support for cold engines, idle, low speeds, and low RPM to maximize the effects of engine vacuum. The throttle is opened and the engine is at high temperatures. Air assist is turned off.

The PCM monitors the air support system using information from the sensor air-fuel ratio (AFR). If the PCM detects an air-assistedfuel injector system that is defective, insufficient or too much air entering it, the code P0066 will trigger.

P0066 fault codes can be found on vehicles made by Ford, Audi, Bentley and Citroen as well as various Ford, Audi, Subaru, Citroens, Peugeot, Citroens, Renault, Mitsubishi, Fiat Jaguar, Dodge, Volkswagen and Toyota models.

What is the P0066 Fault Code?

P0066 may indicate a short circuit within one of the wires of the air-assisted injector circuit. The PCM that controls the air-assisted injection system could also have failed. The PCM that controls the air-assisted injector system may also have failed. In such cases, it is necessary to replace it.

Below are some reasons to set fault code P0066:

  • – A defective air-assisted fuel injection
  • – Defective air assist fuel injector valve / solenoid
  • – Loss of connectors or cables that have been damaged.
  • – Short or open circuit problems
  • – Vacuum Leakage in Injector, Hoses or Clamps
  • – Defective fuse / relay
  • – Defective PCM

What are the symptoms of P0066 Malfunction Code?

Air-assisted injection works by allowing for better fuel injection during vehicle acceleration. In the event that the voltage to an air-assist system is too low to open and close the control valve for the air/fuel mixture, it may temporarily be too rich during deceleration. This could cause stumbling or hesitation.

These symptoms may be present in vehicles with code P0066.

  • – Illumination at the check engine lights
  • – Cold engine can cause hard starting
  • – The engine will not start when it is cold.
  • – The accelerator pedal is released, there will be a slight stumble and stalling in the engine.
  • – An increase of fuel consumption
  • Engine misfires and/or stalls in extreme circumstances

How to Fix the P0066 Fault Code

There are several repairs that can resolve the P0066 fault code:

  • – Repair or replacement cables and connectors related to this system
  • – Replacing air-assisted injection valve / solenoid
  • Repair or replacement of vacuum lines connected to the air assisted injector valve
  • – Replacing one or more fuel injections
  • – Reparation or replacement of wiring that is related to the fuel injector system
  • – Reprogramming or replacement for a defective PCM

To avoid expensive parts replacement, it is important that parts are tested. The cheapest method to repair damaged system cables is to wrap electrical tape around them.

How serious is the P0066 Fault code?

This code has a moderate to low severity. Normal operating temperatures will not affect engine performance. However, it will be difficult to start an engine that is cold. If the problem is not addressed immediately, components such as wiring, injectors, system voltage and PCM can be damaged. To avoid any further damage to your fuel system, it is important that the fault be fixed as soon as possible.
