What is the P0099 fault codes? What is the description of Intake Air Temperature 2 (IAT2) Sensor 2 Circuit Intermittent/Erratic failure? How do you fix the P0099 fault code What are the causes and symptoms of the P0099 error code?

What is the P0099 Fault code? What does it signify?

If the powertrain control module, PCM detects that the voltage signal coming from the intake temperature sensor (IAT2) circuit #2 is not operating within the normal range of operation or is sending intermittent signals or erratic signals, a code P0099 will be set.

The IAT input signal is used by the PCM to calculate fuel delivery and ignition timing strategies. Engine performance and fuel efficiency are dependent on the right ratio of air/fuel (typically 14 to 1) It is therefore crucial to have the IAT sensor data.

You can find the IAT sensor in the intake manifold or air intake pipe. It can be integrated into MAF sensor housings on some vehicles. It is important that the air entering the engine flows through it continuously.

The IAT sensor, which is a thermistor that measures temperature in air by measuring resistance in it, usually has two wires. The PCM sends a reference signal of 5 volts to one wire, and ground is the other.

The resistance changes when the engine draws air into it. This resistance change affects the 5 Volt signal that is supplied to the sensor. Hot air produces low resistance and high voltage signals, while cold air creates high resistance. The PCM monitors the change in the reference signal to calculate the air temperature. If the PCM detects that sensor #2’s voltage signal is irregular or intermittent for a period of time, a P0099 code will be issued.

There are many models that are susceptible to the P0099 fault code, including Ford, Nissan and Chevrolet, Mercedes Benz. Opel. Toyota, Honda, Toyota and Mazda.

What is the P0099 Fault Code?

There are several possible triggers for P0099’s fault code.

  • 2: Defective intake of air temperature (IAT sensor)
  • – A sensor circuit is open due to wiring problems
  • – Short or open circuit in wires and connectors for PCM
  • – Unplugged IAT sensor
  • – Filter blockage
  • Leakage can be caused by cracks and fractures in the intake pipe.
  • – Defective MAF sensor
  • – Defective PCM

What are the symptoms of P0099 Malfunction Code?

You may experience the following symptoms if your vehicle has a P0099 Code:

  • – Illumination for the check engine light
  • – An increase in fuel consumption
  • – Low engine performance
  • – Engine hesitation during acceleration
  • RPM fluctuations at idle
  • – Random engine misfires
  • Depending on the temperature outside, the engine can be run in either rich or lean conditions.
  • Carbon buildup can occur if you drive the vehicle in this manner for long periods of time.

How to Fix the P0099 Fault Code

All codes should be cleared first. Next, conduct a road test to determine if they return. Visual inspection should be done on the wiring harness and electrical connections to the intake temperature sensor if the code is returned.

One IAT sensor may be present on several vehicles. IAT1 and IAT1 are used to measure the air temperature relative to the MAF sensor. IAT2 is used for the temperature of air immediately after the compressor. It is imperative to verify that all components are in good condition so as not to make a mistake.

  • – Test and replace the #2 sensor for intake air temperature
  • Repair of damage to cables and connectors to sensor circuits
  • – Repairing short or open circuits in the wiring to the PCM
  • – Clean and replace the clogged or dirty air filter
  • – Repair or replacement of any leaks in the air intake tube
  • – Replace the PCM if it fails to pass the testing procedures

How serious is the P0099 Fault code?

The PCM calculates the fuel delivery strategy using the IAT sensor. Unsanctioned sensor readings or improper operation can lead to engine running hard, stalling and increased fuel consumption. It is possible for the engine to perform at a significantly lower level. The P0099 fault code must be resolved immediately.
