What is the P0111 fault codes? What is the Intake Air Temperature Sensor 1 Circuit Range/Performance Problem description? How do I fix the P0111 fault code What are the causes and symptoms of the P0111 error code?
What is the P0111 Fault code? What does it signify?
If the powertrain controller module (PCM), detects signals from the intake heat temperature (IAT), sensor, outside of factory specifications, P0111 will be generated. The PCM compares signals from the IAT and ECT sensors. This fault code is set if there are two conflicting sensor signals. Some vehicles may have more than one IAT sensors. In the description of the code, the “Sensor 1” part refers to IAT sensor 1.
The IAT sensor has a two-wire thermistor. The reference voltage to the PCM is one wire, and ground is the other. As temperature rises, the resistance of a sensor decreases and it becomes more conductive. Both the resistance and voltage signal will rise when the intake is cold. The PCM will log fault code 0111 if it detects inconsistency between the signals from the IAT sensor. This could be a voltage signal that is very different over a short time period.
P0111 fault code can affect vehicles from many manufacturers, including Hyundai Accent, Ford, Chevrolet, Honda and Honda.
What is the P0111 Fault Code and Why Does It Happen?
You may need to assign the P0111 error code for many reasons. These are the most frequent reasons for setting the P0111 fault code:
- – Defective IAT sensor
- – Defective mass flow sensor (MAF sensor) (some vehicles are equipped with an IAT sensor and MAF sensors.
- – IAT sensor wiring issues (open, shorted, damaged or frayed fused wires or corroded, loose connections)
- – Defective PCM
What are the symptoms for P0111 Malfunction Codes?
You may experience the following symptoms if your vehicle has a P0111 code:
- – Illumination for the check engine light
- – Increased fuel consumption
- Low engine performance
- – In some cases, the engine may not start at all
- Black smoke can sometimes be emitted from exhaust in some cases
- – The PCM is able to enter and exit failsafe mode, which could cause the engine not to start or stop working.
Note: Different symptoms may indicate malfunction depending on the manufacturer’s PCM programming strategy.
How to Fix the P0111 Fault Code
- Road tested to check if the codes are still valid.
- – Repair or replacement IAT sensor connector
- – Repair and replacement IAT sensor wiring
- – Replacing IAT sensor
