What is P0147 fault code and what does it mean? What is O2 Sensor Heater circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 3)? How do I fix the P0147 fault code What are the causes and symptoms for the P0147 fault code

What is the P0147 fault code? What does it signify?

A P0147 code is issued when the powertrain controller module (PCM), detects a problem in the downstream oxygen sensor heater/circuit, or when it notices that it is taking longer to reach operating temperature than normal. In the code’s description, “Bank 1” indicates the bank that houses the engine’s first cylinder. “Sensor 3”, refers to O2 sensor located furthest away from the engine, following the catalytic converter.

The engine’s oxygen content in the exhaust indicates whether it is running lean or rich. The O2 sensors amplify the voltage signal when an engine is running high. If the engine is running low, the voltage signal will be lower.

In order to get precise readings from oxygen sensors, they must be at an operating temperature. The heater component is included to ensure that the sensors can quickly reach operating temperature and keep it at this level while the vehicle is running. This allows the PCM calculate fuel delivery and ignition timing faster and puts the engine in closed loop quicker. If the O2 sensor heater is not performing as expected, the code P0147 will be stored.

The P0147 fault code can affect a variety of Ford models, including the Ranger, GMC, Dodge, Volkswagen and GMC.

What causes the P0147 Fault code?

This error code could be triggered by:

  • – Defective oxygen sensor (bank 1 sensor 3)
  • – Defective oxygen sensor heater circuit
  • – O2 sensor heater circuit fuse blown
  • – Wiring problems

What are the symptoms for P0147 fault code?

These symptoms may be present if you own a vehicle that has the P0147 code.

  • – Illumination for the check engine light
  • – An increase in emissions values

Sometimes, other symptoms may not be apparent.

How do I fix the P0147 fault code?

  • – Repair or Replace wiring or connections to the O2 Sensor (Bank 1 sensor 3)
  • – Replacing O2 sensor fuse
  • – Replacing O2 sensor (Bank 1 Sense 3)
