What is the P0182 fault number? What is the description of the Fuel Temperature Sensor “A” Circuit Low Input malfunction? How do I fix the P0182 fault code What are the causes and symptoms for the P0182 fault code

What is the P0182 Fault code? What does it signify?

If the powertrain controller module (PCM), detects that voltage signal from fuel temperature sensor or fuel composition sensor has been received, P0182 will trigger. “A” Drops below the manufacturer’s programed limits. The “A” Circuit in the code’s description refers only to a circuit and not to a particular component.

Most vehicle applications have the fuel temperature sensor as well as the fuel composition sensor integrated into a single housing. These sensors provide information to the PCM about the fuel’s temperature and composition. It measures the amount of ethanol, water and other contaminants contained in the fuel, calculates its temperature, and then transmits this information to the PCM via an electrical signal.

Temperature is the most important factor that affects the fuel’s density. The fuel is denser the colder it is. The powertrain control module, or PCM, monitors the fuel density to determine how much fuel is injected into cylinders. It also controls the fuel temperature. The PCM uses fuel temperature sensor values to optimize engine performance and efficiently burn fuel. The sensor’s voltage signal is high when fuel is cold. It decreases as fuel heats up.

If the PCM detects that the voltage signal from the fuel temperature/composition sensor is lower than the calibrated parameters, it will assume the fuel is overheating and set a P0182 code.

P0182 fault code can affect vehicles of all makes and models.

What causes the P0182 Fault code?

The following are the most frequent causes of the P0182 fault code:

  • – Broken, damaged, fused or broken wires, or loose or corroded connections, as well as open or short circuit issues to sensor circuit A
  • Excessive chemicals in fuel can lead to erroneous sensor readings. This can cause fuel to boil at lower temperatures, causing the sensor to fail.
  • Vehicles that freeze due to inclement weather, or contain water in their tanks will not start.
  • – Defective fuel temperature sensor
  • – A PCM is not working properly or has to be reprogrammed. Very unlikely.

What are the symptoms of P0182 Malfunction Code?

These symptoms may be present in vehicles with code P0182.

  • – Illumination for the check engine light
  • If the fuel is too cold or frozen, the vehicle won’t start.
  • Engine misfires
  • – Engine stalling
  • – Hesitation / stumbling during acceleration
  • – Increased fuel consumption

How do I fix the P0182 fault code?

The fuel temperature sensor monitors the fuel temperature in gasoline engines, diesel engines, and gasoline engines equipped with fuel heaters. Follow the manufacturer’s recommendations regarding the testing of your vehicle and fuel.

“Low Input” Low battery voltage, loose or corroded connectors and wiring that has been previously repaired are all common causes of fault codes. Low voltage can also result from improperly installed retrofitted parts, fuses, relays and the use of low quality components.

The following repairs may be able to resolve the P0182 fault code:

  • – Repairing broken, damaged or fused wires, loose connectors or short circuits to the sensor “A”.
  • – Check the fuel temperature sensor for any problems and replace it if necessary
  • – Replacing a defective fuel composition sensor (in certain vehicles, both sensors are integrated).
  • – Check your fuel tank, and fill it if needed. If it is extremely cold, you should check for frostbite.
  • – Reprogramming the PCM or replacing it (rarely).

How serious is the P0182 fault code?

The vehicle won’t start if there is too much fuel or if the ambient temperature drops below freezing. The engine can stall if it exceeds the normal operating temperatures, or the temperature sensor circuit malfunction makes the fuel rail too hot, causing the engine to misfire, stumble, or stall. It is crucial that you fix this problem as soon as you can.
