What is the P0322 fault number? What is the description for the Ignition/ Distributor Engine speed Input Circuit No Signal/Low fault? How can you fix P0322 fault codes? What are the causes and symptoms of the P0322 error code?
What is the P0322 Fault code? What does it signify?
The P0322 code can be defined as “Ignition / Distributor Engine Speed Input Circuit No Signal / Low” . If the powertrain controller module (PCM), fails to receive the signal from the engine speed sensor (camshaft positioning sensor or crankshaft location sensor), the code P0322 is triggered. The code is not used to indicate faults with any sensor. This code is used to indicate that there are problems with one of the circuits.
The PCM is provided with information by the crankshaft location (CKP) sensor about the crankshaft timing and position. This information can be used to adjust the timing of fuel delivery, calculate engine speed, and regulate ignition timing. The camshaft location (CMP sensor) informs the PCM about the camshaft’s position. This allows the injection and ignition timings to be adjusted. The P0322 fault code will be set if the voltage falls below the set level or the signal is disrupted. This code indicates an electrical circuit defect.
A few cars have an ignition/distributor-speed sensor that is monitored by the PCM. This sensor adjusts fuel timing and ignition to adapt to engine loads and improve performance.
P0322 fault codes can be found on many vehicles, including those made by Volkswagen, Audi and Skoda as well as Seat, Chery, Land Rover and Ford.
What is the P0322 Fault Code?
Here are some reasons why P0322 should be set.
- – Defective crankshaft position sensor
- – Defective camshaft position sensor
- – Defective ignition / distributor speed sensor
- – Problems with crankshaft position sensor or camshaft sensor or ignition/distributor speeds sensor circuit (corroded wires, loose connection)
- – A weak or dead battery
- – The PCM is damaged or needs to be updated
What are the symptoms of the P0322 Fault Code?
You may experience the following symptoms if your vehicle has the code P0322:
- – Illumination for the check engine light
- – The engine won’t start, or the engine starts hard when you press the starter.
- – Engine stalling when idle
- Engine misfire and irregular running
- – Engine hesitation during acceleration
- – Reduced engine power
- – Increased fuel consumption
Sometimes there are no symptoms other than the check engine light coming on. These symptoms will likely occur and become more severe if the code isn’t fixed.
How to Fix the P0322 Fault Code
Before decoding, it is important to determine the reason for the engine not starting when the P0322 code has been stored. Your mechanic might need to replace sensors if this happens.
The following repairs may be able to resolve the P0322 fault code:
- – Charge the battery fully or replace it.
- – Replacing crankshaft position sensor
- – Repairing a damaged, shorted or corroded crankshaft position sensor wire or connector
- – Replacing your camshaft position sensor
- Replacing worn, shorted or damaged camshaft position sensor wiring connector
- – Replacing ignition/distributor speed sensor
- – Replacing an ignition/distributor speed sensor wire or a damaged, shorted or corroded connector
- If possible, reprogram or replace the PCM.
