What is the P0336 fault code? What does it signify?
The crankshaft position sensor, CKP, is an essential component of engine management. It is responsible for calculating the crankshaft position and rotational speed. It usually has two wires: a signal and ground. Some sensors are Hall effect and have three wires. This sensor is mounted in front the crankshaft. It calculates the rotation speed by measuring the magnetic flux between the wheels. An A/C signal generated by the crank sensor is generated as the reluctor wheels passes in front of it. This signal varies according to engine speed. This signal is used to detect engine speed by the powertrain controller module (PCM/ECM). There are a number of teeth on the reluctor wheel, which all have been added to the PCM. The PCM uses data from the crankshaft position sensor and camshaft position sensor in order to determine ignition timing and fuel injection timing. It also detects cylinder misfires and checks the camshaft positioninger (if it is equipped). The code P0336 is set if the signal is interrupted or if there are no parameters.

What is the P0336 Fault Code?
- – Defective crankshaft position sensor
- – Broken, loose, dislodged or incorrectly installed reluctor wheel
- – Crankshaft position sensor connector problems (e.g., rusted, damp, damaged, etc.)
- Problems with crankshaft position sensor circuits (e.g., damaged wires or loose connections, electromagnetic interference etc.
- – Defective camshaft position sensor
- – Misfire of one cylinder or more
- – A distorted signal between sensor and reluctor wheels
- – PCM issues (software updates required).
What are the symptoms of the P0336 Fault Code?
- – Illumination at the check engine lights
- – The engine is difficult or not starting
- – Engine shaking and jolting
- – Idle Speed Variations
- – Engine hesitation while accelerating or braking
- – Misfire of one cylinder or more
- – Engine stalling, but not starting
- – An increase in fuel consumption
How do I fix the P0336 fault code?
- – Replacing the damaged relay wheel
- – Repair of or replacement crankshaft position sensor wiring or circuits
- – Repair or replacement a damaged crankshaft sensor connector
- Repair of engine misfires if necessary
- – Replacing a damaged crankshaft position sensor
- – Replacing the camshaft position sensor that is defective
- – Reprogramming or replacing the PCM
How Serious Is the P0336 Fault Code
P0336 is quite strict. The vehicle may not start properly or run well. If left untreated, a fault in the crankshaft position sensor can cause damage to other engine components. It is important to fix the problem as soon possible.
