What is the P0446 fault number? What is the definition of Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Control Circuit Malfunction How do you fix the P0446 fault code What are the symptoms and causes for the P0446 fault code
What is the P0446 Fault code?
The ECU will trigger code P0446 if there is a fault in the EVAP valve control valve.
The evaporative emissions control (EVAP), system stops fuel vapors escaping to the atmosphere. The carbon canister canister absorbs the fuel vapors from a fuel tank and stores them in coal pellets. The engine control module (ECM/PCM/ECU) controls the breather control valve. The ECU opens the valve when the conditions are right. Fuel vapors that have accumulated in the canister will be sent to the engine to be burned. The ECU will generate a P0446 code if it detects a short circuit at the vent control valve. This light will be illuminated to notify the driver.
What are the symptoms for the P0446 fault code?
- – The engine fault light is on
- – A slight increase in fuel consumption
- – The gasoline smell
What causes the P0446 Fault code?
- Most common: Broken, defective, damaged, or missing fuel cap
- – Defective EVAP canister vent control valve
- – Fuel tank cover that is cracked, deficient or damaged
- – Leakage of the EVAP system line and hoses
- Canister of carbon canisters that have been damaged or broken
- – Fuel tank damaged or defective
- – Open and short circuit electrical connections
How to Fix the P0446 Fault Code
The problem that causes this code is difficult to fix because it has few symptoms. An experienced technician should check the system for resistance and short circuit issues. It may be necessary to replace either the steam release valve, or the ECU/PCM. After you have repaired the Evap vent, you should turn on the check engine light in the instrument cluster. Other components may need replacement if the P0446 code persists.
Repair and diagnose any fuel pressure or fuel system codes that are present. If P0440 and/or P0441 trouble codes are present, it’s most likely a solenoid malfunction or a leak in the EVAP.
Inspect the fuel tank for damage or looseness. Tighten the fuel filler cap if it is loose and remove the code. Check the fuel tank cap for any physical damage or signs of deterioration. The tank cap might not have any faults in some cases. If this happens, you can replace the cover and clean the codes. Tank caps are very affordable and can often be used to fix fault code P0446.
- – Replacing your fuel tank cap
- – Reparation or replacement fuel tank
- – How to change the canister canister
- – Replacing EVAP lines
What’s the significance of the P0446 fault code?
The vehicle’s performance will not be affected by P0446. Other than the check engine lamp, you will not feel any other symptoms. You will not experience any other symptoms than the check engine light. The warning lamp must also be turned off to diagnose and repair the problem.
