What is the P0448 fault codes? What is the Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Control Circuit Shorted description? How do I fix the P0448 fault code What are the causes and symptoms of the P0448 error code?
What is the P0448 fault code? What does it signify?
A P0448 code will be triggered if powertrain control module (PCM), detects a short in a circuit controlling the evaporative emitting control (EVAP), system vent valve, or detects that valve is stuck in its closed position.
Evaporation is a property of the fuel in the tank. Modern vehicles are equipped with a system to prevent these vapors escaping into the atmosphere. This system is called the evaporative emit control (EVAP).
The EVAP system collects fuel vapors inside a chamber called a “canister canister” and then directs it to an engine using the vent valve. This allows for combustion when the conditions are right. The PCM assigns fault code P0448 to the vent valve if it is not opening or stuck in closed position.
P0448 fault codes can be found on vehicles made by various manufacturers, including: Nissan, Chevrolet and Peugeot; Infiniti, Volvo; Porsche; Dodge, Chrysler; Jeep; and others.
What causes the P0448 Fault code?
Code P0448 can be caused by loose fuel filler caps, but the description of the code indicates that there is a short circuit. But, the following can cause it:
- – Defective or loose fuel tank cap
- – A damaged or defective vent valve
- – Connectors or wiring problems to the vent valve
- – Defective purge control solenoid
- Canister canisters that are damaged or clogged
- Vacuum lines that can cause cracks, dents and leaks
What are the symptoms for P0448 fault code?
The P0448 code does not usually affect the vehicle’s drivability.
You may experience the following symptoms if your vehicle has the code P0448:
- – Illumination for check engine lights
- – Slight decrease in engine performance
- – Slightly higher fuel consumption
- – Fuel smells coming out of the engine
How to Fix the P0448 Fault Code
The following repairs may be able to resolve the P0448 fault code:
- – Repairing or replacing the fuel tank cap
- – Replacing a defective vent valve
- – Repairing or replacing a cracked or clogged canister canister
- – Replacing damaged purge control solenoid
- – Repair of or replacement of wires or connectors within the vent valve circuit
- – Removing fuel vapor lines which are damaged or blocked
- – Make sure you check your fuses.
- – Use a digital voltmeter to check continuity and trace the wires back to the PCM.
- – PCM replacement (rarely)
