What is P0557 fault code and what does it mean? What is the Brake Boost Pressure Sensing Circuit Low Input Problem? How can you fix P0557 fault code What are the symptoms and causes for the P0557 fault code

What is the P0557 Fault code? What does it all mean?

One possible fault code for the brake booster pump circuit is P0557. This code is an indication that the powertrain management module (PCM), has identified a fault that is preventing brake booster pressure sensor circuit operation. Other fault codes for the brake booster pressure sensor include P0556 and P0558.

The brake booster pressure sensor circuit monitors the pressure (vacuum), applied to the hydraulic brake booster. The PCM controls this circuit, which can adjust to various braking situations and assist brake pedal operation. This action can be used to slow or stop the vehicle if the driver applies the least amount of force to it.

The brake booster pressure is too low, a P0557 code means. If the PCM is not receiving a voltage signal proportional the driver’s brake pedal depresses, or if it is below the minimum parameters set by the manufacturer, then a P0557 malfunction code is issued.

The P0557 fault code can affect vehicles of all makes and models, including but not limited to Ford, BMW, Audi or Suzuki.

What causes the P0557 Fault code?

Fault code P0557 can be triggered by the following common causes:

  • – Sensor for the pressure of the brake booster pump that is defective
  • Leaky vacuum lines and hoses that are damaged or corroded
  • – Corroded, loose, or damaged connectors
  • – Short-circuited, damaged or faulty cables
  • – Defective vacuum hose non-return valve
  • – Defective brake booster
  • – Defective PCM

What are the symptoms of the P0557 Fault Code?

You may experience the following symptoms if your vehicle has the code P0557:

  • – The engine light will flash when the brake pedal is pressed.
  • – The brake warning light can flash or stay on if the brake pedal has been pressed.
  • To stop the vehicle from accelerating or stopping, it may be necessary to push the brake pedal harder
  • Brake pedal may not respond to normal or be softer than usual

How do I fix the P0557 fault code?

There are several repairs that can resolve the P0557 fault code:

  • – Replacing a defective brake booster pressure sensor
  • – Cleaning corrosion and replacing damaged connectors
  • Repair or replacement of short-circuited damaged wiring
  • Replacement of leaking vacuum lines or hoses
  • Repairing a defective brake booster
  • – Check the PCM for damage and replace it if necessary

How serious is the P0557 Fault code?

While this code will not stop the engine running, it can compromise safe driving. Problems with the brakes are dangerous. A reduced braking performance could cause the driver’s to crash.
