What is the P0639 fault number? What’s the reason for Throttle Actuator Control Range/Performance (Bank 2) failure? How can you fix P0639 fault codes? What are the causes and symptoms of the P0639 error code?

What is the P0639 Fault code? What does it all mean?

P0639 is a general fault codes that can be used to identify problems. “Throttle Actuator Performance (Bank 2)” . This code is used when the powertrain control module, PCM, detects an issue with the throttle control actuator operation in electronically wired systems. The “range/performance” The code defines issue as a condition where the throttle control actuator does not operate as expected. “Bank 2” The engine bank that does NOT include cylinder 1 in engines that have two engine rows (V6/V8). It is important to note that most vehicles only use one throttle for all cylinders. For some applications, the fault might need to be present for 8 driving cycles in order for the PCM register a fault code to illuminate the check engine light.

There is no physical connection between throttle and accelerator pedal in electronically controlled wired system. The PCM controls the electric motor and the throttle using input data from a few control modules. These modules include:

  • – Transmission control Module
  • – Body control module
  • – ABS Control Module
  • – Fuel control module
  • – Turbo control module
  • – Cruise control module
  • – Traction control module
  • – Stability control Module
  • Distance warning module

Other control modules may also be involved. However, the throttle control process begins when the accelerator pedal presses. The position sensor within the accelerator pedal assembly transmits the pedal position as well as the rate at which it is being depressed via the Ethernet bus to the PCM, and all other affected modules. This information is also shared with the PCM from all modules involved in the safe operation and maintenance of the vehicle. This ensures that the PCM is able to verify that all control module receive throttle input data. The vehicle will then start accelerating. All of this validation and checking takes only a fraction of a second. Once everything is in order, the PCM instructs the electric motor located in the throttle body for the throttle plate opening to a specific position. A position sensor (TPS) is located within the throttle and reports the PCM the current position. Fault code P0639 is issued if the throttle position doesn’t match the PCM requested position.

Some situations can occur depending on your vehicle’s specifications when the throttle request is sent. The PCM can issue the gearshift commands in response if the vehicle has an automatic transmission. The distance control module can prevent your throttle from responding if you are too close or incompatible with the adaptive cruise control. To avoid potential hazards, the brakes can automatically engage.

The P0639 fault code can affect vehicles of all makes and models, including but not limited to Audi, Mazda, Fiat Chrysler, Fiat, Fiat Chrysler, BMW, Suzuki Jeep, Volkswagen, Volkswagen, and Ford.

What causes the P0639 Fault code?

Below are some reasons to set fault code P0639:

  • – Defective accelerator pedal position sensor
  • Defective throttle position sensor
  • – Defective throttle actuator
  • – Dirty throttle bodies
  • – Broken, damaged, melted, or corroded connectors or cables.
  • – Damaged cables/components on the controller network bus
  • – Incorrectly or defectively programmed PCM

What are the Symptoms of the P0639 Fault Code

These symptoms may be present in vehicles with code P0639.

  • – Illumination at the check engine lights
  • – When you press the accelerator pedal, the vehicle might hesitate/stumble.
  • – Difficulty or no starting the vehicle. These symptoms can vary depending on whether the vehicle’s temperature is high or low.
  • Engine can stall unpredictably or frequently when it is idle, or at low engine speeds
  • – Idle speed can fluctuate or exceed maximum acceptable RPM
  • – Other relevant fault codes are set (e.g. cylinder misfire codes).

How to Fix the P0639 Fault Code

This type of throttle body is not recommended for vehicles. Sometimes, the only solution is to replace your throttle body.

The following repairs may be able to resolve the P0639 fault code:

  • – Repair or replacement of any damaged, disconnected, corroded, or shorted components, connectors, and wiring that are associated with the throttle actuator
  • – Cleanse the throttle body
  • – Replacing a defective throttle actuator
  • – Replacing the defective PCM

How Serious Is the P0639 Fault Code

P0639 means that there is a serious fault. The vehicle may not start until the problem is fixed. Even worse, the vehicle might not respond to your accelerator pedal, which can put you in danger. This code should be fixed immediately.
