What is the P0711 fault code What is the Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor “A” Circuit Range/Performance malfunction description? How to fix P0711 fault codes? What are the symptoms and causes for the P0711 fault code
What is the P0711 Fault code? What does it signify?
Means of Malfunction Code P0711 “Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor “A” Circuit Range/Performance . This code is triggered if the powertrain control module, PCM, detects a signal coming from the transmission temperature sensor which does not match the expected values.
The transmission fluid temperature sensor (TFT) is located behind the oil pan and usually within the transmission valve body. This sensor is used by the PCM to calculate parameters such as shift points, torque converter clutch (TCC), and line pressure.
The reference voltage is received by the TFT sensor and the internal resistance changes according to the temperature of transmission fluid. TFT sensor is a type negative temperature coefficient thermistor. Its internal resistance is proportional to the temperature in the transmission fluid.
Fault code P0711 is issued if the PCM detects a problem with the temperature sensor for transmission fluid. This code will be issued if the transmission temperature exceeds or falls below a predetermined value.
These vehicles are susceptible to the P0711 fault code. They include many models of Saturn and Duramax, Mercedes-Benz, Cadillac, Mercedes-Benz, Peugeot, Suzuki.
What is the P0711 Fault Code?
Here are some reasons why P0711 should be set.
- – Temperature sensor to detect defective transmission oil
- – Short Circuit, damage or corrosion of wires or connectors
- – Filtering and oil contamination in transmission oil
- – Transmission fluid missing or leaking
- – Gearbox damaged
- – An issue with the powertrain controller module (PCM), or transmission control system module (TCM).
What are the symptoms for P0711 Malfunction Codes?
These symptoms may be present in vehicles with code P0711.
- – Illumination for the check engine light
- Transmission warning light turns on
- – Gearbox overheating
- – Torque converter clutch malfunction
- – Irregular, harsh or delayed gear changes
- Excessive temperature can cause transmission oil to smell.
- Smoke could come from the gearbox
- – The gearbox might not engage properly
- You can disable the vehicle from shifting gears by using the safe mode (Limp Mod)
How to Fix the P0711 Fault Code
Some repairs that could resolve the P0711 fault code are:
- – Fill your transmission fluid with the recommended level of manufacturer’s fluid
- Wash the entire transmission, and change the oil and filter if necessary.
- – Repair transmission fluid leaks
- – Replace damaged or loose electrical wiring and connectors
- – Replace damaged or defective temperature sensor
- – Repair transmission mechanical failures
- – Reprogram TCM/PCM that is damaged or defective
If code P0711 is saved and the engine isn’t overheating, but the transmission is heating up, then it is possible that either the transmission fluid or levels are unsafely low.
How serious is the P0711 Fault code?
The safe driving of your vehicle may be impaired if the code P0711 has been set. This code can be considered potentially dangerous. If this code is displayed, the vehicle should be stopped from being driven.
