What is the P0872 fault number? What is the explanation for the Transmission Oil Pressure Sensor/Switch “C” Circuit Low error code? How do I fix the fault code P0872? What are the causes and symptoms of the P0872 error code?

What is the P0872 fault code? What does it all mean?

Transmission control modules (TCM and powertrain control modules (PCM), use the transmission oil pressure sensor/switch to measure hydraulic pressure during shifting. The TFPS sensor is typically located near the hydraulic control unit (valve-body / transmission computer) within the transmission. It can, however, be mounted beside the transmission case in certain applications.

The transmission oil pressure sensor converts mechanical oil pressure into an electric signal. The voltage signal of the sensor will increase if the oil pressure is higher, and vice versa. This information is passed to the PCM/TCM for monitoring the transmission operating pressure and performing the shifting process.

The PCM constantly checks the signals sent by the transmission oils pressure sensor and compares them against the parameters stored in the memory. If the voltage signal from the “C” input circuit of the sensor is lower than it should be, the P0872 fault code will be triggered. For more information, consult your vehicle’s specific repair manual.

Problems with the electrical circuit of a sensor are usually responsible for P0872. Setting the code can result in transmission oil leaks or cracks in the transmission hydraulic computer. Also, it could cause low system operating pressure and transmission oil loss. It could also be caused by mechanical issues.

Some vehicles are susceptible to the P0872 fault code, including but not limited to Dodge, Ram and Mercedes Benz models, Mazda, Chryslers, Duramax Nissan, Hondas, Toyotas, Chevrolets, GMCs, and Jeep.

What causes the P0872 Fault code?

Below are some reasons to set fault code P0872:

  • – Damaged wiring or loose connectors.
  • – Pressure sensor for defective transmission oil
  • – Transmission oil that is missing, dirty or contaminated
  • – Defective high pressure transmission pump
  • – Sensor for temperature transmission defect
  • – Engine overheating
  • – Transmission oil leakage caused by gaskets or other components
  • – Mechanical transmission malfunctions
  • – Defective PCM / TCM (rarely)

What are the symptoms of P0872 Malfunction Code?

You may experience the following symptoms if your vehicle has the code P0872:

  • – Illumination at the check engine lights
  • – The Transmission Warning Lamp is Now Available
  • – Transm oil heated to high temperatures
  • – The gearbox emits an oily smell
  • Smoke coming out of the gearbox
  • – incorrect gear shifting or delay in gear changes
  • – Gearbox slip
  • Transmission oil leaks
  • – PCM allows you to enter safe mode, lock the vehicle in 2nd and 3rd gears.

How do I fix the P0872 fault code?

The following repairs may be able to resolve the P0872 fault code:

  • Repair of damaged wiring, connectors and open or short circuits relating to the oil pressure sensor.
  • – How to replace a damaged pressure sensor for transmission oil
  • – Clean the transmission and replace the transmission fluid with the filter
  • – Replacing an inoperable high-pressure transmission pump
  • – Replacing a faulty temperature sensor for transmission
  • – Repair of transmission oil leaked
  • Repair of malfunctioning mechanical transmissions
  • – Testing the PCM and TCM, and if necessary replacing them

How Serious Is the P0872 Fault Coding?

It is important to treat P0872 with seriousness. This could be due to a faulty sensor, or hydraulic pressure issues. To prevent transmission damage, it is crucial to quickly diagnose and fix the problem.
