What is the P0874 fault number? What is the explanation for Transmission Oil Pressure Sensor/Switch “C” Circuit Intermittent error code? How do I fix P0874 fault codes? What are the causes and symptoms of the P0874 error code?
What is the P0874 Fault code? What does it all mean?
Transmission control module (TCM), or powertrain control module, uses the transmission oil sensor/switch (TFPS), to determine hydraulic pressure while shifting. The TFPS sensor can be found near the transmission’s hydraulic control unit (valve or transmission computer). It can, however, be mounted beside the transmission case in certain applications.
The transmission oil-pressure sensor converts the oil pressure into an electronic signal. The voltage signal of the sensor will increase if the oil pressure is higher, and vice versa. This information is shared to the PCM/TCM in order to monitor the transmission operating temperature and perform the shifting process.
The PCM periodically checks the transmission oil pressure sensor’s signals and compares them to the parameters in its memory. If the voltage signal from the “C” input circuit of the sensor is intermittent / intermittent or does not match the desired values, the P0874 fault code is triggered. To identify the “C”, circuit, consult your vehicle’s specific repair manual.
P0874 is often caused by electrical problems in the sensor’s circuit. Setting the code can result in transmission oil leaks or cracks in the transmission hydraulic computer. Also, it could cause low system operating pressure and transmission oil loss. It could also be caused by mechanical issues.
P0874 fault codes can be found on vehicles made by Nissan, Dodge and Skoda.
What is the P0874 Fault Code?
Low transmission fluid levels are the most common reason for code P0874. Code P0874 can also be caused by a low transmission fluid level in older vehicles with higher mileage. Low fluid levels are usually indicative of a leak because transmission oil doesn’t burn in combustion like engine oil. You can find the leakage in the areas of the car that are often parked.
Below are some reasons to set fault code P0874:
- – Broken wiring, loose connectors and open or short circuits relating to the circuit for the transmission oil pressure sensor circuit
- – Sensor for oil pressure in transmissions that is defective
- – Transmission oil missing, dirty, or contaminated
- Defective high pressure transmission pump
- – Sensor for temperature transmission defect
- – Engine overheating
- – Transmission oil leaks can be caused by gaskets or other components
- – Mechanical transmission malfunctions
- – Defective PCM / TCM (rarely)
What are the symptoms of P0874 Malfunction Code?
These symptoms may be present in vehicles with code P0874.
- – Illumination and control of the check engine light
- Transmission warning lamp now on
- – Transmission oil that has been heated
- – Oily odors emanating from the gearbox
- – Smoke coming off the gearbox
- – incorrect gear shifting or delay in gear changes
- Gearbox slip
- Transmission oil leaks
- – The PCM can go into safe mode and lock the vehicle in 2nd, or 3rd gear
How do I fix the P0874 fault code?
These are some of the possible repairs that can resolve the P0874 fault codes:
- Repair of damaged wiring, connectors and open or short circuits relating to the oil pressure sensor.
- – How to replace a damaged pressure sensor for transmission oil
- Flushing the transmission, and changing the transmission fluid with the filter
- Replacing a defective transmission high-pressure pump
- – Replacing the defective transmission temperature sensor
- Repair of transmission oil leaks
- – Repair of mechanical transmission failures
- – Test and replacement of the TCM and PCM, if needed
How serious is the P0874 Fault code?
You should take P0874 seriously, as it could be caused by a defective sensor or hydraulic pressure problems. To prevent transmission damage, it is crucial to quickly diagnose and fix the problem.
