What is P0888 fault code and what does it mean? What is Transmission Control Module Power Relay Sense Circuit Malfunction (TCM)? How do you fix P0888 fault code What are the causes and symptoms of the P0888 error code?

What is the P0888 Fault code? What does it stand for?

If the powertrain control module, PCM detects an unusual voltage signal on the Transmission controller module (TCM), or any associated circuit, a code P0888 will be set.

TCM relay supplies power to the solenoids which operate the transmission during normal operation. When the relay is off the solenoids will not be powered and the transmission will go into limp mode. The PCM and/or TCM control the relay. Depending on vehicle make and model, the transmission control relay, (TCR), may be located in an IPM, smart fuse box or standard fuse box.

P0888 fault codes can be found on vehicles made by various manufacturers, including Chrysler, Dodge and Ford.

What causes the P0888 Fault code?

Below are some reasons to set fault code P0888:

  • – Defective transmission control relay
  • – Transmission control relay circuit malfunctions causing open or short circuits
  • – Defective transmission solenoid / pressure switch Assembly
  • – Fusible link or blown fuse
  • – A PCM/TCM is broken or requires reprogramming

What are the Symptoms of P0888 Fault Code?

These symptoms may be present in vehicles with code P0888.

  • – Illumination for check engine lights
  • – Irregular gear changes
  • You can enter the fail-safe mode to get out of one gear if your vehicle is stuck.

How to Fix the P0888 Fault Code

Expert knowledge and experience is required in order to diagnose and fix fault code P0888. It is necessary to test the voltage signals from many special components, cables, connectors with special tools. An experienced electrician should inspect your vehicle.

The following repairs may be able to resolve the P0888 fault code:

  • – Clear all codes and test the tool to confirm that they are working again.
  • Repair of frayed, shorted or damaged cables and connectors
  • – Test the transmission control relay using a voltmeter. If it fails, replace it.
  • – Replacing transmission control relay wiring harness
  • – Replacing a defective transmission solenoid/pressure switch
  • – Replacing blownfuses
  • – Programming and testing the PCM/TCM

How Serious Is the P0888 Fault Coding?

You should take the P0888 code seriously if it has put your vehicle into fail-safe mode. This mode should not be used to transport vehicles. To prevent further damage, your vehicle should be repaired immediately if it has the fault code P0888.
