What is the P2138 fault number? What is Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch D/E Voltage Corelation Failure? What causes the P2138 fault code How to fix P2138 fault ?….
What is the P2138 Fault Code and how does it work?
Before we can explain what fault codes mean, let’s first understand how the 90s throttle studies impacted automotive design and function. Vehicles built before the 90s were much simpler in design than modern computer-controlled models. To control the throttle, an analog cable was used to connect to the accelerator pedal. Today’s “Electronic Throttle Control.” Technology includes an accelerator pedal position sensor, an electronically-controlled throttle body, two embedded sensors for throttle position and correlation factors, as well as an engine management computer.
P2138 is a general drivetrain code. It applies to all vehicles manufactured after 1996. This code indicates that the Engine Control Module has identified a problem in either the D or E circuits. The throttle is not opening and closing correctly. This code may be used to indicate the same fault on all models and makes, but it could also appear under other names. It could be described, for example, as “a” on Infiniti. “Throttle position sensor circuit range/performance” fault. Hyundai on the other hand can specify it as “Electronic throttle controller system failure power management” .
What are the symptoms of P2138 Fault code?
P2138 fault codes can present with a variety of symptoms. This code will cause the engine fault lamp to light up. The engine may experience sudden power loss while it is moving. When the vehicle is stopped, the engine can stall. A stuck throttle can cause acceleration problems.
- – Engine fault light on
- Engine might stall
- Engine may not start
- – Acceleration loss of power
What Causes the P2138 Fault Code
P2138 can occur for many reasons. The code can be caused by shorted, corroded or loose wiring connections. Problems in the gears’ movement can also be caused by deformation of a throttle body. One or more sensors may have failed, or the throttle body itself could be defective. It is possible that the engine management system computer has malfunctioned.
- – A defective throttle body motor
- – Damaged cable or connector to the throttle motor’s throttle body motor
- Defective throttle position sensor
- – Defective Engine Control Module
How to Fix the P2138 Fault Code
The throttle control system is extremely sensitive, so any interventions should be carefully considered. Inspection of all components within the throttle body is required. The sole element that is not part of the body is the position sensor for the accelerator pedal. Remove the cover and inspect all components for signs of wear or deterioration. Examine the wiring and connectors for problems in the throttle position sensor. You should replace any suspect or defective parts. The problem should not be caused by the throttle or its components. If necessary, the Engine Control Module must be replaced.
Note: Do not attempt to open the electronic throttle body’s butterfly valve manually with your hand, or any other tool. This could cause serious damage to the electronic throttle motor and prevent the vehicle from starting.
