What is P2172 fault code? What is the explanation for the Throttle Actuator Control System – Sudden High Airflow Detected error code? How do I fix the P2172 fault code What are the symptoms of the P2172 code fault? …..
What is the P2172 Fault Code and what does it mean? What does it signify?
Modern vehicles have an electronic throttle actuator control system. This system includes throttle position (TP), electronic throttle actuator (ETA) and throttle position(APP) sensors.
The electronic throttle control (ETCS), controls the movement of throttle. The driver presses the accelerator pedal to activate the APP sensors, which send a signal (PCM), to the powertrain controller module (PCM). This signal tells the PCM how much power the motor requires. The PCM adjusts and closes the throttle plate in accordance with the signal.
Like other parts of your car, the throttle actuator control can fail. If the PCM detects a sudden increase in airflow, the malfunction code P2172 is set and the check engine lamp will be activated.
The P2172 fault code can affect certain models of Dodge, Ram or Jeep, Chrysler and Mazda, Alfa Romeo Volvo, Fiat and Fiat.
Note: This code could be found on certain Dodge/Chrysler vehicles. “Higher Airflow/Vacuum Leak Detected” .
What causes the P2172 Fault code?
Here are some reasons why P2172 should be set.
- Vacuum leaks can cause leaky air intake
- – The throttle blade is stuck in an open position
- Defective throttle actuator
- – Sensor for Defective Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP)
- – Defective throttle position sensor
- – Defective accelerator pedal position sensor(s)
- – Damaged, melted or broken cables and/or connectors
- – Defective or dirty throttle body
- – Abnormal system voltages
- – The PCM has become faulty or requires a reprogramming
What are the Symptoms of P2172’s Fault Code?
You may experience the following symptoms if your vehicle has the code P2172:
- – Illumination at the check engine lights
- – Does not begin
- – The starter may be turned off but the engine may not start.
- – The engine can be stopped even if it starts
- – The throttle response may be either low or high.
- Incorrect idle speeds
- – The automatic transmission doesn’t change gears
- – The PCM goes into failsafe mode, which limits the vehicle’s speed until the code is fixed.
- – You can also set other fault codes
How do I fix the P2172 fault code?
There are several repairs that can resolve the P2172 fault code.
- – Vacuum leak repair
- – Clean the throttle body & vane
- – Replacing a damaged throttle actuator
- – Replacing a damaged throttle body
- – Replacing a faulty MAP sensor
- – Replacing defective accelerator pedal position sensors
- Replacing a damaged throttle position sensor
- – Repair/replacement damaged cables and connectors
- – Replacing/reprogramming the PCM
How serious is the P2172 Code of Fault?
Fault code 2172 can prevent your vehicle from starting completely. This code can cause the throttle to become unresponsive. This code can cause the vehicle to become unresponsive and unsafe to drive.
