What is the P2238 fault number? What is the description for the O2 Sensor Positive current Control Circuit Low (Bank1 Sensor 1) malfunction? How do you fix the P2238 fault code What are the causes and symptoms for the P2238 fault code

What is the P2238 fault code? What does it all mean?

P2238 is a code that indicates that the powertrain controller module (PCM), has detected a positive current imbalance in the voltage signal from O2 sensors (O2). A low-voltage circuit is the positive current control circuit. “Bank 1” In the code description, refers to the engine block containing the engine’s cylinder 1. “Sensor 1” Refers to the O2 sensor upstream that precedes the catalytic convert.

PCM uses oxygen sensors in order to regulate and monitor the air-fuel mixture. Oxygen sensors are used to determine the amount of oxygen in exhaust gases. This allows the PCM determine whether the engine runs at a rich or lean air-fuel ratio.

Variations in oxygen levels can cause changes to the output voltage. When there is high oxygen content in the exhaust, the O2 sensor voltage signal will be low. Code P2238 is triggered if the PCM detects too low voltage and doesn’t match the parameters stored in its memory.

P2238 fault codes can be found on vehicles made by Toyota, Lexus and Kia.

What causes the P2238 Fault code?

Here are some reasons why P2238 should be set.

  • – Defective oxygen sensor (Bank 1 Sensor 1)
  • – The O2 sensor’s wiring and/or connectors have been damaged, burnedt, shorted; disconnected or corroded.
  • – PCM-related issues (rarely).

What are the symptoms for P2238’s Fault Code?

You may experience the following symptoms if your vehicle has the code P2238:

  • – Illumination for the check engine light
  • – Increased fuel use
  • – Engine misfires and irregular running
  • – Other fault codes in relation to rich / lean fuel mixture
  • – The exhaust emits black smoke
  • – Reduced engine performance

How do I fix the P2238 fault code?

The following repairs may be able to resolve the P2238 fault code:

  • – Inspect the oxygen sensor wiring and connectors. Repair or replace any damaged parts.
  • – Ensure that the O2 sensor heater circuit is connected to the same voltage inputs as the oxygen sensors. The sensor should not be used if there are any significant differences.
  • Conduct voltage tests of the O2 sensor. Verify that the ground or power relay are free from shorts and open circuits. Repair as required.

How Serious Is the P2238 Fault Code

P2238 fault code may cause engine to fail and lead to other driving problems. This code should not be ignored and should be fixed immediately.
